How to Update Wordpress

WordPress is the most commonly used CMS in this world, infact a recent study proved that more than 25% of the world's websites are powered by WordPress! So no surprises here if I'm writing this piece about or you're interested to learn about How to Update WordPress in easy steps, right?

Now this world has thousands of different CMS's! Like literally! So if WordPress is surpassing all of them and is coming out to dominate 25% of the world websites, trust me it's not a big deal, it's a “H-U-G-E” deal! So of course here's what I'm gonna explain to you in this piece:-

  • What is WordPress.
  • How to update WordPress from Admin panel
  • How to Manually Update WordPress Using FTP

What is WordPress:-

WordPress is a CMS! A Content-Management-Service. Well no it's not a “service” actually, it's a “System” kind of thing that let's you do hell lot of other things.

WordPress isn't an extremely awesome tool in itself if I'm going to be honest, but when coupled with it's various plugins and themes and functionalities, it's one hell of Internet army!

In short, if you've got WordPress and you're going to run your website, you won't need anything else. I mean you would, but whatever you  would need is supported and can be integrated into WordPress.

It's basically just a “write & Publish” platform, or it “was”. Right now, you can use it to Create a forum, create a full-fledged E-commerce website in minutes, Create a songs download-upload website and 10 other different kind of things.

So bottom line?   You can't exist on the Internet without WordPress, specifically if you're in the content publishing biz. You should also see how you can add Push Notification on WordPress website.

Caution Before Updating WordPress:-

Updating WordPress is fast, and secure. But then again, there always is something or the other that can go wrong on this planet, right?

So I'd say before updating WordPress, make sure you've a backup of your WordPress site, a fresh one. In case you're confused about the backup thing, here are some pieces to help you out.

  • How to Backup WordPress Site. (This is where I've shared how to backup your WordPress site so that if something goes wrong, you always have a checkpoint to go back to.  Worry not the tools or plugins are mostly free!)
  • How to Restore WordPress site. (Cause in case something goes wrong, you need to be able to restore it too, right?)

How to update WordPress from Admin panel:-

Okay so among the many ways to update WordPress, one of the best and easiest methods is to Update it from the WordPress admin panel. So in order to do so, login to your WordPress dashboard.

Once you're in, it's extremely easy updating WordPress. Just scroll down and you'd see the “Get Version Xx.xx” option on the bottom right. Click on it.

Now you'd be confronted with two options. Click on the Update now button.

Clicking on it would start the update process. In this case you don't have to do anything more, it takes around 2 seconds and you're greeted with a welcome message telling you that the update has been successful!

If your wordpress website has some sensitive content, you can lock it. Here is how to lock WordPress content.

How to Manually Update WordPress Using FTP:-

Yeah so the above method was about updating WordPress using the automated update button which takes less than 2seconds to be completed.

But if you've been wondering how to update WordPress over FTP, then here's how. I'm covering the FTP thing because at times the automatic button might not work, or just because you want to do things manually.

In this process, we would be using a File transfer Protocol client, to upload the newer version of your WordPress directly to your server without logging in to your WordPress dashboard, or Cpanel!

The first step for you would be to download the latest version of WordPress! That you can do by going to https://wordpress.org/download/ and clicking the download button.

Once you get the .zip file of WordPress, all that's left for you to do is to upload the file.

First of all, you need to Login to your WordPress site using a FTP client. I use and recommend FileZilla (it's free!). So just login to your website using Filezilla.

Once you're in, you need to “upload” the WordPress file you downloaded some time back. So just head to your site's root directory, and upload the WordPress files onto it.

Now, after some time you will get a “Over-right permissions” box. This is because you already have an older version of WordPress installed on your servers, so you need to overwrite the older files.

Just select the “overwrite” option and click on Ok.

Done!

Final Words:-

So yeah that was it folks, on how to update WordPress in easy steps and how to use WordPress. I'm pretty sure I listed the cautions and the steps to do it both automatically, and manually. WordPress is no doubt the best CMS and what makes it best are the Plugins. There are thousands of WordPress plugins and you can use them for making the best version of the website. You must hear about Yoast SEO Plugin. Here is how to install and Setup Yoast Plugin.

So it's all straight and simple. But in case you still got doubts or are confused about something, do make use of the comment box!

I answer to all the queries. Oh and hey a share won't hurt.

How to Display Recent Posts in WordPress

If you want that reader must stay up to maximum time on your website/blog then provide content as per their choice.

Earlier, to decrease the “bounce rate” of the blog I have written an article on “How to Display Related Posts in WordPress without Plugin” and now if the reader wants some fresh & recent articles then Display Recent Posts in WordPress.

Mostly, we Display Recent Posts in WordPress on the sidebar but there are other users who also want some change. In this article, we will show you the different ways to Display Recent Posts in WordPress.

Display Recent Posts in list format:

We know, the list format is mostly used in sidebars so if you want to display Recent Posts in a sidebar then put the following code in a template file (sidebar.php):

', ''); ?>

I have put the default no. posts at 10, if you want some less or more posts to display then change according to your requirement.

Display Recent Posts with Summary:

To give a small overview of the post to the reader, some people display Recent Posts with a title and a short description. For them, I have found two ways to display Recent Posts.

The First Way:

  • have_posts()) : $the_query -> the_post(); ?>
  • ”>

If you put the above code in a template file (sidebar.php) then you have to specify a short description of the post. So, you have to rewrite the excerpt as per the word limit.

So, here is the second way to display Recent Posts in WordPress. First, you have to download this Limit Post plugin and activate it. Once the plugin is activated then paste the following code in your theme files where you want to display Recent Posts.

  • have_posts()) : $the_query -> the_post(); ?>
  • ”>

Here I have put the description limit as 250 you can change according to your blog.

Display Recent Posts with Full Content:

If you want to display Recent Posts with Full Content then place the following code in your theme files:

  • have_posts()) : $the_query -> the_post(); ?>
  • ”>

Here also you can change the no. of posts.

I hope now you can Display Recent Posts in WordPress blog easily. If you face any difficulty in placing code then connect with via the comments section below.

Let us start with a simple question, what's the most common way that you use to find images? Most of the people just Google about the topic, save the images that they like and use them for their purpose.

Many people even put their own watermarks on the images they found on Google, well all these things are actually wrong you may have to pay a fine of almost 1000$ per image.

You never know that the image you downloaded from Google is copyrighted or not. Personally speaking, many of my fellow blogger friends have already faced an issue because of using copyrighted images.

You must be wondering what do I exactly mean by Royalty free images, these are some images which are not acclaimed/copyrighted by any online firm or blog.

It means you guys can use these images in any way you want, no one will charge you even if you put on your own watermark on these images.

These images also prove to be pretty handy to the people who design flyers/posters for different firms and educational agencies.

So without any further delay lets get down to the main topic, below are given the steps using which you will easily be able to find some useful and royalty free images.

Follow the steps as listed below:-

  1. Google whichever topic that you want to search the image on and select the images tab.
  2. Now all the right you will see a gear icon, all you need to do is just click on that gear icon and go to advanced search.
  3. Now once you click on Advanced search, it will open up a completely new window in the same tab, here you will see a lot many setting, all you need to do is just simply scroll down to Usage Rights once you click on that it will open up a drop-down menu, from this drop-down menu select “Free to use and share even commercially “.
