Published

on

A bright iPhone or iPad screen in a dark room can hurt your eyes at times and give leave you with a bad experience. Most people know how using a phone in dark public places like a movie theatre earned them evil stares from the people around.

Features like auto-brightness can help, but there’s nothing quite as jarring as waking up to check an important email in the middle of the night and being greeted by a bright white screen.

Actually speaking, Apple has a feature in its devices that can save you from such annoying situations. If you spend a lot of time looking at your iOS device in low-light situations, you should learn how to invert colours on the iPhone.

It is a very useful and efficient remedy for those who want to tone down things and save themselves from such annoying scenarios.

This functionality of Invert Colors on the iPhone not only saves battery life but also helps prevent your eyes from getting strained and stressed. These iPhone invert colours feature inverts the display’s colours to provide better contrast.

One important thing is that you require this iPhone colour change or Invert Colors iPhone option only in specific conditions of dim lights or when it is dark and would definitely not like it to be always enabled.

So, you would like a method where you can enable and disable this feature quickly as and when required. Apple is always mindful of the needs of its users and tries to incorporate all those features that will make their life comfortable.

It has provided a workflow of enabling and disabling this feature easily through ‘Accessibility Shortcuts’.

How to Invert Colors on iPhone

Here’s how to invert colours on the iPhone or iPad screen.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to the ‘General' section and tap on it.
  3. Scroll down and tap on ‘Accessibility'.
  4. Choose ‘Invert Colors' switch to the ON position. This option will be visible under the ‘Vision' section, which should be at the top of the screen. The screen will now invert the colours. If you’re on an older version of iOS, this setting may be labelled ‘White on Black'.

There is a faster way to do it, and that’s by setting a shortcut. If you are trying to create a shortcut for iPhone 5s colours, here’s how you do it.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to the ‘General' section and tap on it.
  3. Scroll down and tap on ‘Accessibility'.
  4. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list where you’ll see an option labelled ‘Accessibility Shortcut.'
  5. Tap on it to open the list and you’ll find six iOS accessibility features that Apple allows a user to set as a shortcut.
  6. Once your shortcut is selected, you can enable or disable it at any time by triple-clicking the home button.

Now whenever you want to toggle between the colours, simply triple-click on your iPhone’s home button.

You’ll immediately see the colours invert with white becoming black, black becoming white, and everything in between shifting accordingly. The best part of creating the shortcut is that you can quickly turn this feature on and off as needed.

This feature comes handy during late night browsing sessions or on a night trip or maybe in a movie theatre.

Many iPhone users consider this feature as useless and highly intriguing, but they might change their mind when they see its benefits. Let’s see the benefits of inverting colours on the iPhone or iPad.

  • Impaired Vision

Many people are colour blind and in the majority of cases, they are not even aware of it. Invert colours on the iPhone is very helpful to those who have colour blindness or impaired vision. This feature helps the eyes to correct the flaw of distinguishing between the shades of red and green.

  • Better Reading

With smartphones, we now read our emails, surf net and be on social media most of the time. All these activities require us to read the text. Most of the text that we read on the iPhone, whether it’s from within the phone’s menu, the web browser or email is displayed on white background.

Invert Colors will display white text on a black background, thus reducing the amount of strain that your eyes get bombarded with. This results in easier reading and eyes won’t tire too fast.

  • Extends Battery Life

People claim that it also extends the battery life of iPhone because less power is required to light up the display of the device. This argument is however not absolutely correct. It seems that Invert Colors has a very low impact on battery life for all iOS devices.

This is due to the fact that it uses an LCD/LED-based technology to display colours.

  • NightTime Navigation

If you are the one who has to be on road trips often, then this feature of iPhoneInvert Colors extremely beneficial to you. If you’re driving and using your iPhone to navigate to your destination, make sure to turn this feature on.

If you have not enabled this option, then the bright light might cause trouble for the eyes every time you try to see the route as the eyes get accustomed to dark during night driving.

On enabling the feature, the low light won’t distract you from driving while you remain constantly updated with your route.

In spite of many advantages, there is a bit of a downside too. Invert Colors spoils the display for many apps, games, and features.

This is precisely the reason that people don’t opt for this function because they are not aware of the fact that they can create a shortcut to it and switch it on when required. They think that they have to dig deep into the settings every time to enable or disable it.

Now that you know how to create a shortcut and the benefits that come with using this feature hope you will make use of it and save yourself from those annoying stares in the dark.

How to Backup iPhone Using a Mac

Published

Life is uncertain. And smartphones, they are an intrinsic part of our lives, they often take a tumble and a fall. Unfortunately, often they don't survive these little mishaps.

So what does one do then? After mourning for our fallen electronic comrade, we move onto the next smartphone. But moving on isn't as easy because there are memories (data and contacts to be more precise!) that make us miss our old phones.

Well if you have an iPhone, we have a trick up our sleeve that will make this transition really easy and pain-free! Gone are the days of pen and paper notebooks to maintain a phone book. Today we show you how to backup iPhone via a Mac!

How to Backup iPhone Using a Mac

The generous people at Apple have provided us with not one but two ways of making a backup of all the data on your iPhone.

We can use either iCloud or iTunes to backup iPhone. You restore iPhone from backup, from any of these two places, but they have some major differences in them, so let's have a look!

iTunes or iCloud- How Do I Backup My iPhone

The question eventually boils down to what type of storage you want to use when you back up the iPhone. While some of us will prefer the ease and convenience of use of using iCloud, the limited free storage of 5 gigs will be a major detractor for some.

Other might find that the local storages of iTunes are too cumbersome and prefer to pay a bit more and buy some cloud storage from Apple.

Here we will list the major pros of both platforms, beginning with iCloud:

  • The backups are stored in the cloud.
  • There is up to 1TB of storage available (The first 5GB is offered to you for free.)
  • Backups are always encrypted by default.
  • It is much more convenient as it lets you make and use backups from anywhere with Wi-Fi.

And the plus points in using iTunes are:

  • As the backups are stored locally on your PC or Mac Harddrive, you don't have to download it off the Internet.
  • Storage is free and is dependent only on the available space on your PC or Mac.
  • It also has encrypted backups although they are off by default.
  • Lets you make and use backups from your Mac or PC.

Now that we know what the advantages are let's answer the big question, “How do I backup my iPhone?”

#1. How to Backup iPhone using iCloud

  1. The first thing to do is to connect the device to a wireless network. If you're unsure of how to do so, head on over to this link.
  2. If it is iOS 8 or later, tap  on Settings > iCloud > Backup.
In iOS 7 or earlier, you should click on Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
  3. Once you've made sure that iCloud backup is turned on, proceed to the next step.
  4. Tap on the Back Up Now button. You should stay connected to a Wi-Fi network until the process completes as this process needs a constant internet connection.
  5. Make sure the backup has been finished! You can check on it by tapping Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage, and then select your device. The backup you just made should appear in the details with the time and backup size.

#2. How to Backup iPhone using iTunes

  1. Open up iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.
  2. Save content that you downloaded from the iTunes Store or App Store by clicking File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. Then wait for the transfer to finish. If you're using Windows and you don't see a File menu, hold down the Control and B keys.
  3. If you want to save Health and Activity from your phone or Apple Watch, you must encrypt the data backup. To do so head to the encrypt option and choose a strong password.
Write down your password and store it somewhere safe, because there's no way to recover your iTunes backups without this password.
If you don't need to save your Health and Activity data, you can make a backup that isn't encrypted. Just click Back Up Now. If you're using Windows click File > Devices > Back up (if you don't see a File menu, hold down the Control and B keys).
  4. You can check if the backup process has been successful by scrolling over to iTunes Preferences > Devices. You should be able to see the device name along with other details like the date and time of the backup creation! The little padlock symbol beside the backup is an indication that your backup is encrypted.

With that, we come to the end of this article! We hope that this piece has taught you how to backup your iPhone! If you have any other questions or queries leave them down below.

Now, you can restore iPhone from backup and have your new phone just the way your old one was! For more interesting stuff about iPhones, head on over to this article! I'll catch you in the next one!

How to Resolve If iMessage Not Working on iOS 9

Published

on

By

Texting is fun! This is no secret because there are so many instant messenger apps right now that App Stores have a dedicated category for them! However, only a few of them can make it big like WhatsApp, Kik or iMessage.

One advantage that iMessage has over everyone one of these is that it comes pre-installed on all iOS devices and thus has an enormous user base from the get-go!

If you are invested in the Apple environment and have friends and family who use iOS as well, then iMessage is the easiest way to communicate!

It's free, doesn't need a sim hence can even be used iPod and iPad users and is overall just a blast to use. So when it stops for some reason, we tend to get really angry, real fast! But don't you worry I'm here to remedy just that!

Unfortunately, there is no single solution to this problem we have on our hands! A whole bunch of reasons can cause iMessage problems and the best solution that we have seen work for us to try a whole bunch of solutions until one of them fixes the problem!

With that said, there are quite a few things to go through, so let's just dive into the solutions one by one!

How to Resolve If iMessage Not Working

Yes yes, I know the title says iOS 9. But honestly, you should all be on the latest iOS version by now. And if for some reason you are still running on older versions of iOS, you can follow this guide as well; the steps work just fine no matter which version of iOS you run!

1. Check Network Settings / Wi-Fi Proxies

iMessage needs an internet connection to work! As simple as that! So if you face iMessage problems, the first thing you should do is check that you have a secure and reliable connection to the internet.

Often if you are on cellular networks and the connection is spotty, you might face problems in the delivery of messages. In that case, the best solution is to move to an area with better data connectivity. If that's not possible, try rebooting your phone. It often helps.

If you're facing this issue while connected to a WiFi network, then you should try to move closer to the source of the signal so that you get a better connection!

Also, do make sure that proxies are not hindering the flow of data through the network. For mobile connections, double check your APN settings with your cellular service provider and make sure your cellular data pack is working!

However, iMessage not working due to network issues is a relatively rare occurrence hence we move onto the next solution to this problem!

2. Turn OFF and then Turn ON Again

Like so many things in tech, turning it off and on can often fix a whole host of issues from app data corruption to the app being booted from memory.

  • Navigate to Settings → Messages and turn OFF iMessage if it’s switched ON already.
  • Now, switch it ON back again! Be patient and wait for it to reactivate! Make sure you have an active network connection!
  • Now try sending an iMessage to someone who's already an active iMessage user.
  • Should this happen to not work out for you, you might need to resort to signing out of Apple ID (go to Send & Receive) and then signing back in again. Repeat the turn OFF-ON steps after this to get rid of your iMessage problems!

3. Send & Receive Options

You'd be surprised how often the problem is in the settings of these little buggers. So if your iMessage not working problem hasn't been solved yet, be sure to give this one a try!

Step #1. First, we navigate to Settings Messages Send & Receive.

Step #2. Next up, you can see your phone number and an associated Apple ID listed on the screen. You can configure the options of this list.

Step #3. The next is a bit of a trial and error so just go through almost all of them one by one and see which one works out for you!

  • First up to try removing the email ID and keep only the Phone number.
  • If that doesn't work, try the opposite! Select either email or phone number and test if iMessage works with any of these.
  • Third times a charm! Right? For this one, we need you to select an email AND a phone number as well. After this, you’ll see another section with the text “Start New Conversion from:” – select your original phone number and it should work!

4. Some Other Methods

While these have no technical reasoning behind them, they have been often found to work so I'll list them below as well:

  • Deleting old texts can sometimes do the trick and get iMessage working again.
  • Another such method is to do a restore (and set up the iPhone as NEW) and iMessage problems should disappear.
  • Set the date to auto-update. This has been found to fix the issues surrounding iMessage (and FaceTime, too). To do this, navigate to Settings  General Date & Time and turn the switch on Set Automatically to ON.

Well, these are all the methods that I resort to getting iMessage working on my device! If you have any more nifty tricks up your sleeve to solve iMessage not working, do leave them in the comments below.

And if you have forgotten the password to your Apple account, then you can check this article on how to get it back!
