Step 2: Once you open the Settings, you will get a bunch of options. You can see Data usage under Wireless & Networks. In order to open the background data usage for all the applications, you should open it.


Step 3: Opening Data usage option will give you some deep insights about applications that use your data the most. You can see a button on the top-right corner of the screen (three-dots button). Just tap on it.


Step 4: A menu with four options is what you see at this step. As you clearly guessed, one should go with the first one that says Restrict app background data.


Step 5: After tapping on the same, you will be asked whether you really want to deactivate the app background data or not. If you are firm with this decision, you must choose Ok.


That’s it! None of your applications use your data pack in the background from now on. I don’t recommend you do this, especially if you have instant messaging apps on your device.

Step 2: Under Wireless & Networks, you can see an option named Data usage. Simply, tap on it to proceed to the next step.

This lets you run command-based strings on your cell device which in turn lets you get a hold over several different features on your android device. So the very first step towards unlocking those features is installing ADB and that's what this article is about.

How to Install Android Debug Bridge?

Head over to the Android Studio Page and scroll down till you get the download links for “command line tools” and then download the package.

Basically this package contains quite a number of things but we won't be needing all of them, so run the .exe file from the package and select just the “Android SDK Platform-tools”. That's what we need to install so select that and click on the install button.

You must have noticed a “USB Debugging” option on your cell phones and wondered what on Earth it was there for, finally you're being answered. So go to your Settings>About phone. And scroll down to the very bottom where you should find the “build number” option. Tap this button 7 times, it enables the developer options.

Now hit the “back” button one time, it would bring you back to your “settings” screen and you should see that the “developer option” has miraculously emerged over there so tap on that.

On the next screen, you'd find the “USB Debugging” option laid out there clearly, just turn it on.

Now browse to the location where you had installed the Android SDK and go to the “Platform-tools” folder. Inside this folder, just hold shift +right click and then click on “open command window here”.

Now connect a USB cable to your computer and cell phone, and then click on the “Allow USB Debugging” option on your cell phone. You need to run the following command – ADB devices

This command brings up the device list on your system. Meaning all the devices which are available for USB debugging.

adb install C:\app.apk – This can be used to install apps directly from your computer to your cell phone. Here this command will install an apk located at your C drive directly on your cell phone.

adb uninstall package.name – This command is used to uninstall packages from your android device without touching the device directly from the computer. Here the “package.name” application is removed from your system. Note that the “app name” isn't the package name. It generally is something like com.rovio.angrybirds.

adb pull /sdcard/file C:\file – Just like there was the “transfer file from computer to android” command similarly this command is used to copy a file from your sd card to your computer. Here the file from the “sdcard” is being copied to C drive of the computer.

N.B.- You can’t see the Build number on the same place on every device. Phones running on stock Android don’t have any difference. But on phones like Samsung and LG, you have to choose Software info from the About page screen.

Step 3: Continuously tap seven times on Build number until you see a toast notification like ‘You are now a developer’ or ‘You become a developer’ (may vary from device to device).

If you don’t see the same, you did something wrong. Make sure you tap seven simultaneous times.

Step 4: Now go back to the Settings panel and, you can see a new option there right below the About phone called Developer options. Open it.

Step 5: Tapping on the Developer options menu gets you to a whole new screen with a lot of unknown features to you.
