How to Create a Separate Data Partition for Windows?

It's always a good practice to keep your documents, files and media stuff in different drives to avoid any chaotic mess. To do so, you may need to know how to partition your hard drive in Windows 7?

Partitioning always helps you to divide your big chunk of storage into smaller drives for better navigation.

So, in this article, we will walk you through the processes required for creating a separate data partition in Windows.

So, let's get started with how to create a separate data partition for Windows?

How to Create a Separate Data Partition for Windows?

Sometimes, you may need to make some additional drives on your Windows system to keep different data separately. So, from now on in this article, we will tell you about the ways by which you can learn how to repartition a hard drive without formatting partition?

In this section, we will make you aware of the two methods by which you can create a separate data partition for windows. Actually, data partition can be done by two ways. One is by while formatting the drive and the other one requires no formatting.

So, let's face off the very first method:

Method #1: Partitioning without formatting the drive.

Step #1: If you don't want any data loss to occur then it is recommended that you should move your data (preferably to an external hard drive). This will save you from any mishappenings while in the process.

In this very first step, you need to get access to the disk management tool which comes inbuilt in the Windows operating system. If you are wondering how to do that, then don't you worry, just read on.

If you are using Windows 8, then you need to navigate to the bottom left corner of the window and then select disk management from there. You can also use the “Win + X” command and then proceed from there.

If you are using Windows 7, then there is more than one way to do that. One is to go to the start button and type disk management or manage disks at the search field and hit enter.

One other way is to right-click on my computer icon and select “Manage” from the menu which follows. After that, all you require doing is to head to the left pane of the following window and click on the “Disk Management” option which is just below the storage section.

This way you can get access to the Disk management tool in windows.

Well, this step is an easy piece of cake. Some complex things are coming your way, brace yourself, folks. Kidding, we will be making things simpler for you. So, for further proceeding, kindly move on to the next steps.

Step #2: Now, in this step, you need to click on the drive from which you want to make the partition. A key thing to take a note that you must have enough free space so that you can create a partition out of it. To do so, all you need to do is to right-click on the selected drive and from the menu which follows; you need to select the “Shrink Volume” option.

This will take some time querying volume for available space.

Once you have the next window in front of you, then you are requested to move on to the next step in order to see what to do next?

Step #3: After executing the previous step, you would have a new window that will ask you to enter the amount of size you want to allocate to the new partition.

Remember that, the allocated space needed to be in MB (MegaBytes). So, in case if you want to allocate 50 GB to the new partition so, you need to enter 50000 MB. As simple as that.

You need to enter that amount in the appropriate field next to the “Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB” text.

Once you are done with it, then you can now hit the “Shrink” button. This will take some moments to process, and once it is done, you will have the desired amount of unallocated space in which you have shrunk from the existing partition.

Step #4: In this step, you require right-clicking on the unallocated space and then selecting the first option which is “new simple volume.” This will take you to a wizard on which you have to assign a special drive letter. For example, “C.” You are also provided with a couple of other options, but this is enough to get you going.

Once you are done through the mentioned, then all you need to do is to click on the Next button, and this will give you a new partition. This is how it can be done in this way.

Method 2: While installing windows.

This is by far the most preferable and best method. In this method, we make partitions while installing the windows itself. The process is quite easy.

All that you need to do is to follow your usual process of installing the windows. Once you have reached the point where you are asked to do the partitions, then you need to select a “new column” and then enter the disk size.

Now, follow the onscreen instructions to finish the process of installing the windows and you are done. We won't be discussing this in detail as it involves showing you the process of installing the windows also.

So, this was all about How to Create a Separate Data Partition for Windows? Do we hope that this might have helped you in your quest of How to make partition in windows after installation?

How to Protect a Folder on Windows Without Using Any Software?

In this era, where security is a major concern, you need to protect your important files and folders. So, for this having great security measures on your system is a must. This is why if you want to know How to Protect a Folder on Windows Without Using Any Software? Then you are in the right place.

So, without wasting time further, let's get started with the section ahead on protecting a folder on windows without using any software:

How to Protect a Folder on Windows Without Using Any Software?

Oh, I guess, you want to keep your private files away from intruders and without even using any software. Or you have some important office documents which you want to secure.

Well, a preferable option is to use specially designed software for this but since you need to know if there is any method for how to lock folder without using any software? So, as said, we will be guiding you through it.

Also, we will tell you about some Softwares also which can help you regarding the needful, just in case if you need those.

So, let's see how to lock folder without any software with password?

The following method is not recommended if you are a complete newbie as you may find it somewhat difficult to use this. This is why we always recommend using an exclusive software for such services.

Step #1: In this very first step, you need to create a folder that will be a kind of abode for your “to be protected” files. You can create the folder anywhere you want as it doesn't make any difference in the process.

To make a new folder, right-click on the blank area and place your cursor on “new” from the menu that follows.

This action of yours will lead to another nested menu from which you are required to click on “Folder.” This way you will have a new folder, and you can name it whatever you want.

Once done then you are now requested to move on to the next step.

Step #2: Now, this step requires you to go to the newly formed folder. Once you are there, you again need to make a right-click and then keep your mouse on the new option. As already stated, it will lead you to a subsequent nested menu from which you need to choose “Text Document.”

Now, you need to open the text file and paste the following content there.

title Folder Private
if EXIST "HTG Locker" goto UNLOCK
if NOT EXIST Private goto MDLOCKER
echo Want to lock the folder? (Y/N)
set/p "cho=>"
if %cho%==Y goto LOCK
if %cho%==y goto LOCK
if %cho%==n goto END
if %cho%==N goto END
echo Invalid choice.
ren Private "Locker"
attrib +h +s "Locker"
echo Folder locked
goto End
echo Enter password
set/p "pass=>"
attrib -h -s "Locker"
ren "HTG Locker" Private
echo Folder Unlocked
goto End
echo Invalid password
goto end
md Private
echo Private created successfully
goto End

Now, replace the text “YOUR_PASSWORD_HERE” with the password which you want to set for your protected folder. After this, you will have to save the file naming it as “Locker.bat” (.bat is the extension for batch files).

Step #3: Now, to run the batch file, you need to double click on it. When you run it for the very first time, it will create a folder named as “Private.” This is exactly where you will have to place the files which you want to protect.

Now, place all the files which you want to be protected. Once done then follow the next step instructions to proceed forward.

Step #4: Now, if you are finished adding all the stuff to the private folder then you are now required to run the “Locker.bat” file again.

This will open the command prompt terminal for you and will ask if you want to lock the folder. If yes then you need to press “Y” and if not then “N” and then hit enter.

This will hide the private folder, and this is how to create a password protected folder without any extra software?

Now, to access the folder again, the following is what you require. The process is quite simple anyway.

All you need to do is to run the script again, and the command prompt will ask you to enter the password for it. Just enter the password, and you can now see the private folder again.

This is how you can make a password-protected folder and save your files without even using any third-party software. However, this method is quite vulnerable as anyone who has even the slightest of hint about batch files can access the file and change the content.

So, we recommend using the software's which we will be telling you in the next section.

Universal Shield: It is an excellent tool which allows you to encrypt, hide and protect your file and folders. It can eventually help you in keeping away intruders from accessing your files and folders. On a personal note, this is something that I've been using from long and is capable to a great extent.

You can get it from here.

Other tools include BitLocker and Folder Lock. However, you can find a plethora of them on the internet.

How To See PC Startup And Shutdown History In Windows?

Are you encountering boot time slowdown on your Windows system or you want to keep track of your PC startup, shutdown and uptime history? If you are nodding year head in confirmation, then we recommend you to read further.

In this article, we will tell you How to see PC startup and shutdown history in Windows in easy and straightforward steps. We will show you two methods in which one is by using the inbuilt feature of Windows, and the other one is by using a third-party tool.

So, without wasting any time further, let's get started:

How To See PC Startup And Shutdown History In Windows?

You might be a power user of Windows and love to keep an eye on the various aspects of your Windows system.

Or you might be living in a house where several other people are using the same system and hence, you want to know how to check your restart, shutdown & uptime history? Or whatever be the mighty reason is.

So, if you want to see this log, then this article will surely help you. There are quite a few methods for this, and we are listing out some for you. So, let's find out:

Method 1: Using Windows Event Viewer.

Windows Event Viewer is a built-in tool or service on the windows which can help you track your system boot time. It also allows you to track down any errors or warnings easily. So, without any doubt, it's an excellent tool to diagnose your system if it is going through the boot slowdown.

Now, how to access the Windows, Event viewer? If this thing is popping out of your head, then don't you worry, we will tell you about it in the following steps. So, let's dive in this method:

Step #1: In this very first way, you need to go to start menu and type “event viewer” at the text field out there. Once you've got the appropriate result, then you now need to click on it to open the Windows Event Viewer.

Alternatively, you can use this “eventvwr.msc” without quotes at the run section and this will open the Windows Event Viewer for you.

If you are using Windows 8 and above then, you can also use this keyboard shortcut for the same. The shortcut is: “Windows Key + X + V.”

So, by now you should have the Windows Event Viewer window in front of you. If yes, then you can proceed with the next steps.

Step #2: Now, in this step, you are required to navigate to the left pane of the window. Find Windows log and double click on it. This will open a kind of drop-down menu for you from which you need to select “System.”

So, precisely it goes like this Windows log -> System.

Clicking on the system will show you the information and the prevailing warnings for your system.

Once done, you now need to move on to the next steps.

Step #3: This step requires sorting the data for which you need to navigate to the Event ID section of the data. Once you have reached there, then you now need to right-click on the Event ID text, and this will open a small menu for you from which you need to select “Sort Events by this column.”

Please take note that if your event list is large, then sorting will take a considerable amount of time. So, for this, you may require creating your filter so that you can have a better look at the data being displayed. SO, for that, you will have to have a look at our next step.

Step #4: To filter the current log, you need to navigate to the right pane of the window and then locate the “Filter current log” option there. Once found, you now require clicking on it and this will open a new window for you.

So, in the subsequent window which came in as a result of your recent activity, you require locating the “Event Sources” section. You can easily find it.

Once there, you now need to enter the following two codes right there in the text field. The codes are “6005 and 6006”. You have to enter both of them separated by a comma.

Once you are done with the mentioned, then you now need to click on the “OK” button.

Step #5: Now, you will have the list of the related events, and you can now proceed further by clicking on it to view the details.

The 6005 codes correspond to the “The event log service was started” and the 6006 code corresponds to the “The event log service” was stopped. So, superficially the former one is a synonym to system startup, and the latter one is a synonym to system shutdown.

To add this additional information to your library, if you see the event ID 6013, then you can get to know about the system uptime.

Method 2: Using third-party tools.

You can always have the privilege of using third-party tools. So, for this we would like you the suggest a tool named TurnedOnTimesView. You can get it from here and this tool helps you in monitoring your system boot time, shutdown time and uptime.

There are a plethora of other tools as well, but this tool is pretty handy, portable and is capable of doing the needful for you.

So, you can give this a try if the first method doesn't seem to work for you.

So, this was all about “How To See PC Startup And Shutdown History In Windows?.”

Do we hope that this might have helped you in your quest of How to Use Event Viewer to Find Your PC's Boot Time?

If you liked this article, then do let us know through the comments section. We would love to hear from you. Also, share this article amongst your peers.

How to Animate in Photoshop?

how to animate in photoshop

You might have read many cool Photoshop tutorials, right?

Most of them deal with pictures that you don’t even get to know Photoshop animation. That’s why I have crafted this guide to help you out.

I know you are aware of a number of Photoshop tricks that woo your friends and relatives. Even if you are a complete beginner in the software, you will never face any issue in bringing this tutorial into practice.

Are you ready to find out the steps to animating in Photoshop? Here you go!

How to Animate in Photoshop?

As I said earlier, you don’t have to rack your brain here. I have explained each step in a comprehensible manner down below. All you have to do is following them without fail.

There are two methods through which you can animate in Photoshop. The first one is using a part in a video whereas the second is using a series of pictures. I am going to show you both of them here.

How to Animate in Photoshop using Video?

For your convenience, I have divided the process into different parts, which you can read down below.

Step 1: First, you have to find a video whose part you are going to turn into a GIF animation. If you don’t have any apt video on your computer’s hard disk, you can find many from the web, especially on YouTube.

Step 2: Once you decide the video, the next step is trimming down to the same to a few seconds. I recommend you should limit the duration to a maximum of 3 seconds. The lengthier the video, the heavier your GIF animation file will be.

Hence, it would be inconvenient to handle the file if you don’t cut the clip to 3- 4 seconds.

how to animate in photoshop

Oops! Don’t you know how to trim a video? You can use any video editor (including the in-house Movie Maker). You can use an online video cutter as well.

Step 3: Now, you have to import the video file into Photoshop. You can’t really right-click on the file and choose Open with Photoshop. There is a particular method for importing video files into it.

Don’t worry! It’s just like the easy Photoshop tutorials you had read.

Open Photoshop software first. Most probably, you have an icon on the desktop. If not, follow Start >> Search for Photoshop.

Once it gets opened, go to File >> Import >> Video Frames to Layers. You will get an error message if you don’t have QuickTime 7.1 or higher. So make sure you have a proper QuickTime player installed on your computer.

animating in photoshop cs3

After choosing Video Frames to Layers, what you get is a browse dialogue box. You should select the required video file (the one you trimmed earlier) here.

N.B – You must ensure the video file is in AVI, MPEG, MPG or MOV format. Or else, you can’t change it into an animation as QuickTime doesn’t support the rest.

Step 4: As soon as you finish with the selection, you will be asked whether to import from the beginning to the end or selected range only.

animating in photoshop

If you choose to go with the second option, Photoshop will present a new window before you, in which it presents the video as a series of still images. You can also find two sliders there.

The first slider determines the beginning of your GIF animation whereas the second one determines the end. You have to set them correctly to get an impressive animation. Choosing a short duration helps it decrease the size of the output file.

Don’t forget to click the OK button after you set the sliders.

Step 5: You have to wait for a few seconds to minutes according to the size of the video file. The higher the size, the longer the waiting time will be.

Only one step is remaining to be done now. Follow File >> Save for Web & Devices. Alternatively, you can use Alt+ Shift+ Ctrl+ S as well.

cool photoshop tutorials

Don’t hesitate to choose GIF 128. You will see a number of options there. If you like to experiment, you can try all of them. But don’t experiment with the file format because GIF is the animation image format.

Also Read: – How to Photoshop Pictures?

That’s it. Let’s look at the second method now.

How to Animate in Photoshop Using Images

If you have a series of pictures that would make a good animation, you can try this out. With perfect layer creation, you can consider this as one of the best Photoshop text tutorials too.

First, open Photoshop and follow File >> Scripts >> Load Files into Stack.

animating in photoshop cs3

Then, you will see a new window inside the main one. A drop-down menu is available there with Folder and Files as two options. If you want to select the entire images from a single folder, choose the first one.

photoshop text tutorials

In case you want to be selective about the pictures, you can go with the second one. I recommend going with the first. You have to create a new folder and move all the necessary images into it.

Once you finish selecting images, you have to open timeline from Windows>> Timeline. And then choose Create Frame Animation.

animating in photoshop cs3

Then, Select >> All Layers and, press on the button at the right-top corner of the timeline and choose to Create New Layer for Each New Frame. Open the same menu again and, click on Make Frames from Layers.

animating in photoshop cs3

You can choose the duration and looping time. Finally, File>> Save for Web & Devices to save the GIF animation.

How to Format a Write Protected USB Flash Drive?

Have you ever encountered a situation, when you just inserted your USB Flash drive into your computer and tried to format it but alas, what you see is the error “Your disk is write-protected”? Your landing on this page ensures that you do have gone through such situations and you want a quick solution on how to format a write protected USB flash drive.

Write-protection on disks is the feature that is designed to protect our data on USB flash drive from being modified without authentication.

Many times situation comes when our system get infected by various types of malicious functions and files, stored on our computer system gets modified without our permission. It happens because those files on our computer systems are not write-protected.

If these files were read-only, no virus, malware or any bad program on earth could ruin these files. Well, my point was just to let you know that such protections are meant to prevent users from unexpected data loss.

But we don't all the time want such write-protection on our USB flash drive or pen drive. Sooner or later, we feel the need to format the flash drive or feel like modifying the existing files stored on our pen drive.

But How to erase a write-protected USB drive or SD card?? Well, that's what we will be teaching you today! We will tell you, how to format write protected pen drive in easy steps.

How to Format a Write Protected USB Flash Drive:

Formatting a write-protected USB flash drive might not be a one-step process but it's not a tough process either. In fact, there is more than one method available to Enable or Disable Disk Write Protection on USB flash drive or pen drive.

The first method which we have mentioned below involves the Command Prompt. The second method is using the System Registry and the last method to disable write protection from a pen drive is by using third-party software.

In this guide, we have covered first and the second method as both these methods are sufficient and works in most of the circumstances.

But before we head over to the steps, I would like to confirm if your USB flash drive has a physical button to enable or disable disk protection.

Most of the new pen drives and flash drives are coming with this button and we can simply enable or disable write protection on them by simply switching on or off this little button.

Have a look at the below image to understand how this button looks like. If your USB flash drive has any such button, you no need to go any further and follow any method. Just locate this button on your drive and enable or disable it as per your need.

Okay, so let's get started with the guide.

Method 1. Using Command Prompt:

In this method, we will be using a Windows command prompt utility called Disk part. Here's are the steps.

Step 1. First of all, click on the Start menu, and type cmd in the search bar, right-click on the first result and select Run as administrator from the list of options.

Step 2. As sooner you do this, Command prompt window in the administrator mode will pop up. See the screenshot below.

Step 3. Now you need to type in diskpart in the command line and press enter. Once done, type in list disk command in the command prompt and press enter.

These commands will instruct your computer to list out all the internal and external hard disks associated with your computer. The list will be in a sort of a tabular form.

You can understand this whole step by having a look at the below screenshot.

Step 4. Now you need to identify your USB flash drive out of all the listed drives. Usually, the one with the low storage capacity mostly in MBs is your USB flash drive. As in our case, it is  Disk 1, with 3819 MB capacity.

Step 5. After identifying the USB drive, it's time to select it. So you need to run the command “select Disk 1″. You can replace “Disk 1” with flash drive name on your computer.

On doing that, a pop-up window will appear notifying you about disk 1 selection., exactly like the below screenshot.

Step 6. We are almost done to make the USB drive protection-free. Once you are done following the above steps, it's time to run one more command. Now type in “attributes disk clear read-only” and press enter.

On doing that, you will see a success message that disk attributes are cleared successfully and your drive will become protection free.

Step 7. Now you can format the drive via command prompt running the commands clean, create partition primary, and format fs=ntfs respectively. Or by simply right-clicking the drive in my computer and selecting Format. It's completely your choice.

Method 2. By Using Registry:

If you are not very comfortable with command prompt and want an alternate method, follow the below-given steps.

Step 1. As I said above, this method involves Registry Editor. So, to reach there, press Windows+R keys together and type regedit in the run window's search bar and press enter. Have a look at the below screenshot.

Step 2. In the registry editor, you need to follow the below path.

As you reach there, you will see the Writeprotected written in the left pane. See the below screenshot to understand better.

Step 3. Now double-click on the Writeprotected and another window named Edit DWORD will pop-up.

Undervalue data, you need to change the value from 1 to 0 to disable write protection from the drive. You can understand better if you see the below screenshot.

Once done, just press ok and you are done. Now you can edit the files stored on your pen drive or can format it depending upon your needs.

I guess, you know the process to format the drive, isn't it?

So, that's it for this guide. I'm sure you got all the steps clearly on how to format a write protected USB flash drive. If you have encountered any issues in following the steps, feel free to write to us in the comment section below, we will reach out to you as soon as possible.
