Insert the CD /USB into your system.
Press the restart button on your system, and then press the BIOS Screen (Setup) button. The BIOS Screen button is the button that is displayed in the initial 1-2 seconds of your system startup and it's not always the same for every system.
Look at the bottom of the screen when your system is starting, you should see something like “Press ButtonX for Setup”, that's the button you need to press.

The next screen lists all your Windows partitions (drives). This is where you select which drive you want the Windows installation to be in. The best bet is to install it in the exact same drive where it was earlier, which mostly is the C:/ drive.
So choose your partition (preferable the C:/) and then click on next.
And it's done! You'll get the “installing..” screen. A word of advice? The first 1% takes quite a bit of time to come up depending on your system hardware configuration so bear with it instead of assuming there's something wrong. (Although 15 minutes is the max it would take even on a 1950's system).
Once this is complete you'll be taken to the final screen which will ask you for details like Username and stuff so just fill it up.
And done! You'll finally get the screen where it says “Setup is checking Video Performance” and in the next 3-4 seconds your windows screen would come up.

- Simply in the Search button, enter “Windows features” in the search box, click the Settings option located on the right side of the screen, and select “Turn Windows Features on or off.”
- The slight change is that, if prompted, you need to enter your administrator password to progress.

Step 2. On the Network and Sharing page, click on the Change Adapter Settings in the left pane. This is the page where information on all your connection is given.
Ignore the rest of the network connections except the one which is active. Right-click on it and Go to Properties. Have a look at the below screenshot to understand the process.
Step 3. On clicking the Properties option, the Wireless Network Connection Properties window will pop up. Now under the section, This connection uses the following items, select the option Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

But let me tell you, as I said above, this is not the only option, that causes the missing icon. Another reason can be the corrupted system files. If this is the reason then you will have to repair them. Check out the method below.
#Method 2: Repair System Files
Step 1: To repair the system file, you will have to run System File Checker. This will check for missing and damaged Windows system files and repair them.
Step 2: For this, go to the command prompt and type the command SFC /scannow. And hit enter.
Before following the previous step, make sure you run the command prompt as an administrator.
#Method 3: Restart Explorer.exe
If there is something wrong with the explorer.exe process, then you may face the desktop icon missing error. With this, not only the desktop icons but the entire taskbar disappears also.
So, to fix the issue, you will have to restart the explorer.exe. For this, press, CTRL + ALT + DEL and click on Task Manager.
Now in the task manager, you will have to click on the File menu. In the file menu, you will see two options, one, New Task (Run), and the other one is an Exit task manager. Click on the New Task (Run). Check out the screenshot below.
As sooner you click on the New Task(Run) option, you will see a dialogue box, Create New Task. And the dialogue box will look like the image I have mentioned below. In the dialogue box, all you have to do is type explorer.exe. Once done, click on Ok.
