Step 1: First of all, go to start menu and make a search for Disk Defragment on the Search bar. Or you can also go manually by going to the system tools.

Step 4: As sooner you click on the defragment disk option, windows will start the process of defragmenting the hard drive.

However, windows 7 automatically schedules a disk defragmentation session to run every week. You can schedule the period according to your choice by clicking on the configure schedule. 

After clicking on the configure schedule option, disk defragment schedule configuration window will pop up. Where you will see some of the options including frequency, day, time and date.

If you notice there is an option already marked that is Run on a schedule(recommended). If you don’t want to run defragmentation automatically, uncheck the option. See the image below.

Now select all the options as per your suitability and need. For example, if you want disks to defrag weekly select the frequency weekly. Similarly, select the day and time as per the requirements.

Once done selecting all the options, click on Select Disks to choose the disks you want to defragment. When you click on the Select disk option, you will see a screen I have shown below. If you want to defrag any particular drive click on that or you can select all disks by checking the option select all disks.

And click on Ok. And the disk defragmentation will be scheduled as per the given instructions. And your computer will then defrag regularly on the day and time you’ve selected. This is how we defragment a hard drive in windows 7.

Step 1: first of all go to the search window and make a search for defragment in the search bar. As sooner you start typing the results similar to the name will start appearing. All you have to click on Defragment and optimize your drives. 

Step 2: After clicking on the Defragment and optimize your drives option, you will see a window featuring a list of the hard drives on your computer.

Step 3: Defrag if the drive is more than 10 percent fragmented. You can see the figure in the current status section. If you are not able to find that which drive needs to be optimized select that and hit Analyze.

Step 4: Once done you are all ready to defrag the drives. Now simply click on the optimize to defrag the drives. It may take minutes to hours depending on the size. Meanwhile, you can continue using the system.

For windows 10, the procedure is given below.

If you have got all the steps of the previous methods, then it will not take much of your time to get the steps of windows 10. Since the procedure of windows 10, is quite similar to windows 8.

Step 1: First of all go to the search bar and type defragment.

Step 2: As sooner you start typing defragment, the similar result will start appearing in the suggestion. You will have to click on Defragment and Optimise drives. 

Step 3: Just like windows 8, window 10 will show you a list of your current drives. Also the status of optimized drives. If it doesn’t show, select the drive and click the Analyse button.

The drives that are fragmented more than 10% should be optimized. Now simply select the drive and click on Optimise. And you are done. The disks will start defragmenting.
