What is a file extension??
A file extension is nothing but a string of characters that helps a computer to identify the type of file it is. According to the file extension, the computer assigns a software to deal with that file.
For instance, if a file is named as example.txt, the .txt file extension make a computer understand that the file is text document and assign it a text opener. Every file holds different file extensions depending upon the data it contains.
But we can easily change the file extension following some easy steps. If you want to know how to change file extension, then read out the full guide, you will surely get to learn many things about dealing with file extensions.
But I would like to specify that changing the file extensions won't change the type of data a file carries; it will just confuse the computer. Also, changing the file extension will make sense if and only if you know what you have to do with the changed file extensions.
Because changing the file extensions may cause unnecessary system errors. So you better play around the file extensions if you have a good reason to change the file extensions.
How To Change File Extension:
How to change a file type is no different than changing the file extensions. File type and file extensions are same things just the names are different. In most of the windows, the file extensions are hidden by default.
To make changes in the file extensions, we need to make the file extension visible first, and then we can change it easily. By making the file extensions visible and then changing is just the one method. The other method I'll show you to change the file extension is by using almost all the software.
You might find everything confusing now but you'll understand all by the end of the guide.
The first method is to navigate to the file you want to change the extension of. For instance, I have a file named Example on the drive D in my computer, and I want to change its file extension. See the screenshot below.
But I can't change the extension of example file unless I'm able to see the file extension it has. In most of the windows, file extensions come hidden by default. In order to change the file extensions, we need to first make the file extensions visible, then only we can change them.
So to make the file extensions visible, click on the start menu and go to control panel. There on the control panel, you need to go to Appearance and Personalization and then Go to Folder Options.
Alternatively, you can directly search for it in the search bar of your start menu.
As sooner you will click on the “Folders Options”, a new pop window will open up. On “Folders Options” window, Go to click on “view”. The window looks like the below screenshot.
Under “Advanced Settings”, Scroll all the way down to “Hide extensions for known file types”. You will notice this option is checked(selected) by default, you need to un-check it in order to make the file extensions visible on the windows.
Once you are done un-checking this option, click OK and come out of the folder options window. After doing all the appropriate settings, it's time to go back to the file we wanted to change the extension of. The file now looks like the following screen.
As you can see, the file was initially visible as only “Example” now it appears as “Example.txt”.
Now it's time for us to change the file extensions “.txt” to “.jpg”. For this, right-click on the file and click on rename. The step is simple but still a screenshot for this step is given below.
Alternatively, you can also rename the file by clicking on the file name, below its icon. You need to do two clicks to change the name of the file. But make sure to have an interval of a few seconds between the clicks else the file will get opened instead of the name editor.
Okay, now replace the file extension with the desired name post the “.”, like the below screen.
While changing the file extension, you may get the warning that changing the file extensions may cause the system errors or the file might not work properly, you can ignore this message if you are sure of what you are doing.
Note: In two cases, you might not change the file extension. First, when you don't have admin authorities of your computer and second when the file is read-only. So, when you can't change the file extension, you need to fix both these issues.
Another method I'm going to tell you is really easy to follow. Just a few steps and you are done. So the method works like this,
Double click and open a file you want to change the extension of. By just double-clicking a file, it gets open in its relevant program. For instance, if you double-click a text file, default it will get opened in a ms word or text document.
Now once the file is opened, just go to the file menu and click on Save as to save the file. In the Save as window, you need to write the name of the file under File Name, it can be anything of your choice.
Under Save as type, select the file type you want your files to be in, like the following image and click Ok. The file extension would be changed. That's it. Both the methods function the same. You can use any one of them as per your suitability.
So, it's time to wrap up my article. I am hoping that the article taught you successfully how to change file extension. But before going any further, just keep in mind, changing the file extensions only make sense when you have the proper reason for doing it.
I hope the article was helpful to you. If it helped you learn how to change file type, feel free to share it on your social platforms!
How to Reinstall Windows 7 on your PC Easily?
Back in the good old days knowing How to Reinstall Windows 7 on your PC made you feel like the smartest guy in the room, didn't it? Sure it did to me!
Well, the thing is it's almost 2017 and still not a lot of people have a solid grip over How to Reinstall Windows or How to install Windows from USB.
It's not very technical or complicated, but if done wrong it surely can mess up your system and who knows you might end up losing everything you've had on the Hard-disk. Well, that's the reason why I've made this guide step-by-step with screenshots to assist you at every step.
Now a fresh Windows 7 Installation helps you cope up with quite a number of issues:-
- Getting rid of Malware/Spyware/Virus
- Boosting performance
- Getting rid of unnecessary files (in case you haven't re-installed it in years!)
Basically, anything that lags your computer down and is caused by software, is resolved. Now it's not advisable to re-install windows 7 if you get infected by malware, or just because your PC is lagging a bit.
A word of caution? Keep in mind that reinstalling Windows over and over again isn't a good thing for your Hard disks. It might corrupt hard-disk sectors in some cases which you clearly don't want, so unless you have a very solid reason to do so, try to get things done with your current installations.
Although if it's something serious or maybe if you know that you've more than one issue like you've got virus + a lot of not-needed files + a corrupt partition and stuff then it can be used as a combined solution.
Things to do Before Re-installing Windows:-
You don't want to lose your data and work once you re-install Windows, do you? So here are some of the things you should do beforehand.
- Make sure your C drive doesn't have any important files (like the ones you don't want to lose) if it does copy it to any other partition.
- Have the serial key of your Windows copy ready, you don't want to promote piracy, do you?
Optional:- If you need a 100% fresh system, you can also format your C:/ drive before reinstalling the Operating system. Now it's not the best way to go about it because it makes you lose all your installed programs and drivers, but it's your choice.
How to Reinstall Windows 7 on your PC Easily (Step-by-step guide):-
So I assume you've got your Windows copy ready? Probably in a CD disk or a USB stick, either way, the process remains the same.
Insert the CD /USB into your system.
Press the restart button on your system, and then press the BIOS Screen (Setup) button. The BIOS Screen button is the button that is displayed in the initial 1-2 seconds of your system startup and it's not always the same for every system.
Look at the bottom of the screen when your system is starting, you should see something like “Press ButtonX for Setup”, that's the button you need to press.
Once on t
he set up screen, you need to move towards the BOOT option, and then select your media which contains the Windows copy as the boot device.
Once you do that, you'll be asked to “press any key to boot….”, so press any key and your Windows 7 installation would start.
On this screen, you can choose your language and click on next.
The next screen would present you with two options:-
- Upgrade:- Use this option if you just want a fresh Windows installation and nothing else. This option keeps your files intact, meaning you won't lose the programs you've installed or other files. But then again, this isn't the best cleaning or repairing option to opt for.
- Custom:- This is the option that would clean your system head to toe. You'll lose your program installations and files but that's why we've got the backup for, right?
So anyway make your choice and click on it.
The next screen lists all your Windows partitions (drives). This is where you select which drive you want the Windows installation to be in. The best bet is to install it in the exact same drive where it was earlier, which mostly is the C:/ drive.
So choose your partition (preferable the C:/) and then click on next.
And it's done! You'll get the “installing..” screen. A word of advice? The first 1% takes quite a bit of time to come up depending on your system hardware configuration so bear with it instead of assuming there's something wrong. (Although 15 minutes is the max it would take even on a 1950's system).
Once this is complete you'll be taken to the final screen which will ask you for details like Username and stuff so just fill it up.
And done! You'll finally get the screen where it says “Setup is checking Video Performance” and in the next 3-4 seconds your windows screen would come up.
So that was all I had on How to manually reinstall Windows 7 folks. This solved your problems regarding How to Reinstall Windows 7 on your PC Easily? I hope it did.
And well here's some personal advice, try to get a good antivirus installed as soon as you get your new OS done, it'll considerably lower your virus risks hence will boost your “OS Lifetime”, and you'd have to worry much less about questions like How to Reinstall Windows 7 on Your Computer.
Although do leave your problems, questions, doubts or even just simple feedback in the comment box down there, I love the interaction.
How to Uninstall Internet Explorer?
Internet Explorer (IE) is the most widely used World Wide Web browser. Launched in 1995, by Microsoft, it is one of the first graphical-based Web browsers. With time, a lot of up-gradation has been made on Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer 11 is a big step forward for the default Windows system browser. IE 11 has the capability to compete with the most popular browsers, like Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
However, Microsoft has discontinued all versions of Internet Explorer other than the recent version for its still-supported operating systems. Moreover, with a lot of other popular browsers gaining momentum, the question that surfaces is that how to uninstall Internet Explorer. But before that, you should be knowing, in practical terms it is:
- Windows 8.1: Internet Explorer 11
- Windows 7 SP1: Internet Explorer 11
Now, whenever a new version of Internet Explorer was launched, it is but obvious that people tend to delete the previous one. Today, in most of the systems we have Internet Explorer 11 and removing it involves a very different process. Before discussing the removal process, take a look at how to install Internet Explorer:
Installing Internet Explorer
There are two ways via which you can install the Internet Explorer:
- Download from the official web-page of Internet Explorer 11.
- The second one is based on the Windows update.
The first method is simple and is clear from the heading only. Take a look at the steps for the second one:
- Navigate to “Control Panel – > System and Security – > Windows Update”, or just type “windows update” in the Start Menu search box.
- Click on “Check for the latest updates.” In the list of Optional Updates, you will see one that says Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7. Select it and then click OK.
- Next, click on the Install updates button, for the installation to start.
- The installation process will begin, and then restart your computer to finish the whole process.
- Once this is done, the Internet Explorer 11 shortcut will be placed in your Taskbar.
Now, take a look at the process of getting rid of Internet Explorer 11 in Windows.
How to Uninstall Internet Explorer from Windows
Now, usually in order to delete any installed program out of your computer, the process followed is “Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features, then choose the selected program and click on Uninstall.” But, as far as Internet Explorer is concerned, the case is different. Microsoft has classified this browser as a Windows Feature. Take a look at How to Remove Internet Explorer from Windows:
- Navigate to “Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features”. Then, in the column on the left, click on “Turn Windows features on or off”.
- The Windows Features window opens up. Just, scroll down to find the entry for Internet Explorer. Uncheck it and press OK.
- A warning will appear, stating “Turning off Internet Explorer might affect other Windows features and programs installed on your computer, including default settings”. Click, Yes to continue.
- There appears that Windows needs to reboot your PC. Just, Click on Restart now. Remember, to lose any unsaved work of yours.
- And when you restart your system, the Internet Explorer will be removed.
However, this doesn’t completely remove all traces of Internet Explorer as other programs and processes rely on its rendering engine. This process is applicable for Windows 7 and the same goes for Windows 10, too.
Removing Internet Explorer from Windows 8
There is a slight change in the process of removing Internet Explorer, from Windows 8. Let’s see, How to Uninstall IE11 from Windows 8:
- Simply in the Search button, enter “Windows features” in the search box, click the Settings option located on the right side of the screen, and select “Turn Windows Features on or off.”
- The slight change is that, if prompted, you need to enter your administrator password to progress.
- Once you have entered the password, Window features screen opens up, just uncheck the box to the left of Internet Explorer, and then click OK. Now, click Yes to confirm that you want to hide Internet Explorer.
Now, click Restart Now to apply the changes, and you are done.
In case you want IE 11 back on your system, simply access this same screen again and check this box, and Press Ok.
Remove Internet Explorer from MAC
Till 2003, Macintosh computers came pre-loaded with Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser. Now, Apple features a lot of superior options like Safari and the operating system. Still, some people, due to a habit or for some old flames, Internet Explorer still remains the browser, even on the MAC.
Now, for some reason, in case you want to delete Internet Explorer from MAC, you need to follow the enlisted process. However, Internet Explorer for Mac does not create a “Preference” file, so you only need to delete the main application file. Take a look at the steps:
- Click on the Internet Explorer icon in the “Applications” folder.
- Drag the file to the Trash in the Dock. As the Trash icon darkens, just drop the file in the Trash.
- Go to the “Finder” menu and select “Erase.”
- A pop- up window appears, just confirm the selection.
Closing the updates
Even after uninstalling the Internet Explorer from your system, you may continue to receive notifications. Getting frequent notifications to update the older version, can be annoying. Now, if you want to shut these notifications too, follow the steps:
- Go to Control Panel and click on System and Security.
- Then click on Windows Update and click Change Settings in the left pane.
- Under Important updates, click the drop-down menu box. It says Install updates automatically.
- Select and click on Download but let me choose which updates to install. To finish, click on the OK button.
Internet Explorer is a great browser to use and embarks a lot of improvements in security, performance, privacy, and standards support. However, in case you still want to remove it, then how to uninstall internet explorer, is not at all a rocket science. Just follow the above-listed steps and simply get rid of Internet Explorer on your system.
It is recommended that before removing Internet Explorer, you do have another browser on your computer. Go for the deletion, only in case, you cannot withstand Internet Explorer on your system.

How to Use WhatsApp for PC?
We are a bunch of busy people living in a world that has way less time for us than we have for it. The internet has changed and morphed over the years into what we have today. A cesspool of quick communications over various IMs (Instant Messenger).
Email is gradually becoming a thing of the past, relegated to an only corporate or official communication. The world of emojis and “Lols” are on the rise!
At the helm of all this is WhatsApp messenger. Having a customer base of over 800 million active users and over 2 billion downloads across mobile platforms, this Facebook-owned company is the uncrowned King of Instant Communications.
So it's only natural that you'd want to join WhatsApp messenger. We're here to help you download WhatsApp for PC!
Two Main Ways to Get WhatsApp for PC
Now we can have WhatsApp on PC in two main ways.
- Download Whatsapp for PC official version.
- A Free, (and official Whatsapp Web version) that you can use without downloading anything.
Method #1:- Download Whatsapp for PC Software:
Whatsapp just launched their official version couple hours ago, I mean a real, official, software from Whatsapp.
Something that's not an emulator, not a third-party solution. But just like there is native software for your computer, that's what WhatsApp is offering now.
A PC version of Whatsapp made specifically for computer users. Whatsapp Web version was launched, but that wasn't an “application”. It was just something that lets you “sync” your WhatsApp with your PC.
But recently (Like couple hours ago) Whatsapp launched an official version of Whatsapp that is a full-fledged software and runs as a standalone app for your PC.
Requirements to Download Whatsapp Official Software on Windows:-
- You must have a Windows Enabled PC. (It says “for Windows 8 and higher”, but I'm running it on my windows 7 just fine, so go along!)
- “You must have Whatsapp installed on your Cellphone.
Steps to getting Whatsapp Official PC Version:-
Head over to https://www.whatsapp.com/download/
Click on the for Windows8 and Higher, if you're on a Windows computer, or click on Mac OS x 10.9 and Higher if you're on Mac!
- The downloading will automatically start
- Once the Whatsapp for computer software is downloaded, just double click on it. It literally is installed in seconds! And then you should have a screen that looks like this:-
I purposely kept the taskbar at the bottom visible in the screenshot, so as to verify that it runs perfectly on Windows 7 too!
- So once you get the QR code, just fire up Whatsapp on your cell device and click on Whatsapp Web option and scan the QR code on the screen.
- It takes a couple of seconds, and then you are logged in to the Whatsapp for PC official version app!
Well from here, you can literally do all those things that you used to do on your cell device, just on a bigger screen, way bigger.
See? So yeah that was it. Not a lot of hustle huh? Yeah, the Whatsapp team took good care of user-friendliness thing no doubt.
Let me sum up the whole process for you:-
Head over the official website to download Whatsapp for PC > Click on Windows 8 or Higher > Run the Application > Scan QR Code > Done!
So yeah it's a 4 step process, that requires less then 5minutes to be completed. And once done you can access all the features of Whatsapp on your PC, and for the first time, without a third-party emulator or application.
Method #2:- Use Whatsapp on PC without Downloading Anything!
I don't think you're going to need this method after the official launch. But if you do, let me tell you the one single benefit it has over the above method.
With this method, you don't need to download anything! Well yup, you can access WhatsApp on your PC without downloading anything.
The first step is to have WhatsApp installed on your smartphone. You can install it on your Android Phones by clicking this link. Apple users can find it in here. As for the Windows folks, you'll get your fix of free WhatsApp download from this link.
Once that is done, set up your account. Then head on over to the main interface. For Android users, click on the three dots and you will find the WhatsApp web options.
If you use any other phone, then navigate to your WhatsApp menu, and you should find the options there. For more detailed instructions on this, click on this link.
Next head on over to this website. Fire up WhatsApp Web on your mobile device and scan the QR code that has popped up on your computer screen!
Finally, you will be greeted by the WhatsApp Web App interface. From here you can chat with your contacts and even send pictures and video!
These are two ways with which you can get WhatsApp for PC absolutely free! If you've any other questions regarding WhatsApp on PC or WhatsApp messenger, in general, leave us a comment down below!
