What is a file extension??
A file extension is nothing but a string of characters that helps a computer to identify the type of file it is. According to the file extension, the computer assigns a software to deal with that file.
For instance, if a file is named as example.txt, the .txt file extension makes a computer understand that the file is text document and assign it a text opener. Every file holds different file extensions depending upon the data it contains.
But we can easily change the file extension following some easy steps. If you want to know how to change file extension, then read out the full guide, you will surely get to learn many things about dealing with file extensions.
But I would like to specify that changing the file extensions won’t change the type of data a file carries; it will just confuse the computer. Also, changing the file extension will make sense if and only if you know what you have to do with the changed file extensions.
Because changing the file extensions may cause unnecessary system errors. So you better play around the file extensions if you have a good reason to change the file extensions.
How To Change File Extension:
How to change a file type is no different than changing the file extensions. File type and file extensions are the same things just the names are different. In most of the windows, the file extensions are hidden by default.
To make changes in the file extensions, we need to make the file extension visible first, and then we can change it easily.
By making the file extensions visible and then changing is just the one method. The other method I’ll show you to change the file extension is by using almost all the software.
You might find everything confusing now but you’ll understand all by the end of the guide.
The first method is to navigate to the file you want to change the extension of. For instance, I have a file named Example on drive D on my computer, and I want to change its file extension. See the screenshot below.
But I can’t change the extension of the example file unless I’m able to see the file extension it has. In most of the windows, file extensions come hidden by default. In order to change the file extensions, we need to first make the file extensions visible, then only we can change them.
So to make the file extensions visible, click on the start menu and go to the control panel. There on the control panel, you need to go to Appearance and Personalization and then Go to Folder Options.
Alternatively, you can directly search for it in the search bar of your start menu.
As sooner you will click on the “Folders Options”, a new pop window will open up. On the “Folders Options” window, Go to click on “view”. The window looks like the below screenshot.
Under “Advanced Settings”, Scroll all the way down to “Hide extensions for known file types”. You will notice this option is checked(selected) by default, you need to un-check it in order to make the file extensions visible on the windows.
Once you are done un-checking this option, click OK and come out of the folder options window. After doing all the appropriate settings, it’s time to go back to the file we wanted to change the extension of. The file now looks like the following screen.
As you can see, the file was initially visible as only “Example” now it appears as “Example.txt”.
Now it’s time for us to change the file extensions “.txt” to “.jpg”. For this, right-click on the file and click on rename. The step is simple but still, a screenshot for this step is given below.
Alternatively, you can also rename the file by clicking on the file name, below its icon. You need to do two clicks to change the name of the file. But make sure to have an interval of a few seconds between the clicks else the file will get opened instead of the name editor.
Okay, now replace the file extension with the desired name post the “.”, like the below screen.
While changing the file extension, you may get the warning that changing the file extensions may cause the system errors or the file might not work properly, you can ignore this message if you are sure of what you are doing.
Note: In two cases, you might not change the file extension. First, when you don’t have admin authorities of your computer and second when the file is read-only. So, when you can’t change the file extension, you need to fix both these issues.
Another method I’m going to tell you is really easy to follow. Just a few steps and you are done. So the method works like this,
Double click and open a file you want to change the extension of. By just double-clicking a file, it gets open in its relevant program. For instance, if you double-click a text file, default it will get opened in an ms word or text document.
Now once the file is opened, just go to the File menu and click on Save as to save the file. In the Save as a window, you need to write the name of the file under File Name, it can be anything of your choice.
Under Save as type, select the file type you want your files to be in, as the following image and click Ok. The file extension would be changed. That’s it. Both methods function the same. You can use any one of them as per your suitability.
So, it’s time to wrap up my article. I am hoping that the article taught you successfully how to change the file extension. But before going any further, just keep in mind, changing the file extensions only make sense when you have the proper reason for doing it.
I hope the article was helpful to you. If it helped you learn how to change the file type, feel free to share it on your social platforms!
How to Remove Programs in Windows 7?
Want to remove an annoying application or an application which is taking too much of your system storage or whatever might be the case. The bottom line is that do you want to know How to uninstall an app or program in Windows or How to uninstall program on Windows? if yes, then you are indeed at the right place.
In this article, we will make you aware of the inbuilt windows feature and the third party software which will ultimately help you know how to remove programs in Windows 7? So, let’s get started:
How to remove programs in Windows 7?
Step #1: Windows has an inbuilt feature which lets you remove or uninstall programs in Windows 7. So, this very first step marks the beginning of the procedures required for the same.
So, in order to get started, you will have to navigate to the start section of the Windows 7 and make a click on it. This will open the start menu for you from which you are required to locate the control panel option. In order to make things easier for you, the control panel option is usually found in the right pane of the start menu.
Once you have found the control panel then obviously you have to click on it. This will open the control panel window for you. Now, you can easily go to the next steps for further instructions.
Step #2: Now, as of now, you will have the control panel window in front of you. Based on your personalized view, you might have any of the three views. So, by default, you will have the following window. If you are having this window then you need to make a click on the “Uninstall a program” option which is placed under the “Programs” header.
However, if you have changed your view settings to “large icons” or “small icons” then you will have to search for “Programs and features” option and make a click on it. The outcome of this will be the same as the previous one.
Step #3: After you have successfully completed step #2, you will have the list of all of your installed programs in front of you. Now, in this step, you will have to look for the program which you want to uninstall.
Let’s say, for instance, we want to remove the utorrent application for the system. So, all that we require doing is to select the program by clicking on it. After this, you need to click on the uninstall option positioned as shown.
After this, you will get a usual prompt which will ask you to provide the permissions to uninstall the application from your system. Just after you have granted the required, you will see the normal rituals you need to perform while uninstalling an application. You need to perform those just by following the onscreen instructions.
Within a while, once you are done with all these, you will have the program removed from your system.
This method involves a third party application named Iobit uninstaller. Though there are many such applications out there I found this tool quite useful and impactful. So, first of all, you will have to download the Iobit uninstaller application on your system.
Step #1: First of all, you will have to download the application on your system. You can either make a Google search or else you can download it from here.
Step #2: Now, once you have downloaded the application then you now need to launch that application. After you have opened the Iobit uninstaller, you will see the list of all your installed programs.
So, now you are required to look for those programs which you want to remove. This uninstaller allows you to batch uninstall a handful of programs at once. So, if you want to make use of that then you can do that as well.
So, in order to install a single application, you need to select that application by clicking over it and then either click on the uninstall button at the bottom or go with the bin icon in front of the program itself.
Step #3: Now, after hitting the uninstall button, you will be prompted to confirm your action. The prompt will look somewhat like this. You need to make a click on the “Uninstall” button in order to proceed forward.
Additionally, if you don’t want to make space for any mishappenings then this tool also provides a facility to create a restore point before uninstalling. So, just in case if any blunder happens you can always restore it to the previous point.
Step #4: Now, after step #3 the usually uninstall wizard of the application will open up and you are now required to follow the onscreen instructions to reach up to the final steps.
Step #5: As the final step, if you wish, you can run the powerful scan option. This powerful scan searches the system against the leftovers of the program which you have just uninstalled which is no longer required. Since those files are primarily considered as junk so, it is recommended that you should run this wizard.
After the scanning, you will be provided with the leftover files and you can now delete those. Just in case, if you do not want to delete some specific files then you can always uncheck such files and delete the rest.
This way, you will have your program uninstalled using a third-party uninstaller.

How to Use Command Prompt Tricks?
So, do you want to brag off your computer skills by showing some cool tricks to your friends? Or do you want to become a power user of the Windows operating system? If yes, then you need to know the command prompt and its commands. So, in this article, we will tell you how to use command prompt tricks? But before that let us first know what a command prompt is?
A command prompt is a command-line interpreter for Windows. It is officially called the “Windows command processor”. It is primarily used to execute commands which can help us automate some tasks, perform some administrative functions and some usual stuff.
So, let’s get started by exploring some of the hidden Windows command prompt tricks.
How to use Command Prompt Tricks?
In this section, we will tell you about some cool tricks and shortcuts which you can perform using a command prompt. Some of them are very basic yet handy commands which can be very helpful if you intend to become a power user of command prompt by knowing some command prompt tricks and hacks.
So, let’s get started with the basic ones:
1: Ctrl + C: Well, yeah this is the shortcut command for the copy. But while using it with command prompt, it is used to abort a command. If ever command is executing like forever and you need to stop that then this command will help you get over that.
2: Cls: It might happen that there are lots of data on your command prompt screen and you want to clear that in one go. If yes, then the “CLS” command will help you like anything.
All that you require doing is to type “cls” and hit enter and the screen will be cleared.
3: Function keys: Function keys are of some great use and can save you some time while working on with the command prompt. Some of the function key features are in correspondence with the arrow keys which in turn possess some of the similar functions.
Here are some of the uses of function keys:
(i) F1: This function key will paste the last executed command to the command prompt terminal. However, there is one thing to take note that the command will be outputted character by character. So, to get the full command, you will have to press the F1 key as many times as it takes.
(ii) F3: This function key has the same function as the F1, but it enters the full command at one go rather than displaying it character by character.
(iii) F5: It pastes the recently executed commands. Even F8 possesses the same function as F5 though it cycles the previously executed commands.
4: Copying text from the command prompt: Ah, you find it difficult to copy some text from the command prompt terminal to your clipboard. Here we are with the solution for the same.
So, all that you require doing is to right-click anywhere on the command prompt screen and then click on the very first option from the menu that follows that is; you have to select the “mark” option.
This will highlight the character at the top left corner of your cmd screen. However, you can place the cursor wherever you want. Now, you can select the text till you want just by dragging your mouse till that point. Once you are done with the same, then you now have to hit enter.
Now, copy the text as you usually do. See, how easy was that.
5: Network Information: Want to see all your network information. CMD comes to your service and all that with just a single command. All that you need to enter is this “ipconfig /all” and see the information flowing at your screen.
6: Watching Star Wars.
This is by far the most interesting cmd command. Yeah, you can watch Star Wars right at the command prompt terminal. For this, you will have to type the following command “telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl.” Also, make sure that you have your telnet feature enabled on your system and if not then you can easily do that by going to the Windows features through the control panel.
7: Creating a hotspot using command prompt.
On a personal level, this is something I found very useful. you need to create a hotspot, you can easily do it via your command prompt. All that you need to do is to follow each step carefully and you will be done.
Step #1: Open the command prompt. Make sure to open it with administrative privileges.
Step #2: Type the following command to see if your system supports a hosted network or not. “netsh wlan show drivers“. If you see a yes next to the “Hosted network supported” section then you can proceed further.
Step #3: Now type the following command: “netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Hotspotname key=password”. Set the Hotspotname and password to whatever you want and then hit enter. After doing that, you will get a confirmation output that the hosted network has been set to allow.
Step #4: Now, in this step, all you have to do is to start the hosted network and for that, you have to enter the following command:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork.
This will start your hotspot and in case if you want to stop that then type the following:
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
and you are done.
8: Running multiple commands:
Let us suppose that you want to execute multiple commands in a single go. Yes, it is possible in the command prompt. For this, you only need to place “&&” without quotes between the two commands.
Let’s see an example of this: ipconfig && dir This will execute both the commands simultaneously.
So, this was all about how to use command prompt tricks? We hope that after going through this very article, you must be able to do the desired work.
So, if you liked this article on CMD prompt tricks, then do let us know through the comments section down below. Additionally, do not forget to give us a thumbs up through our Facebook page and share this as much as possible.

How to Make a Google Doc?
We all are aware of the fact that Google Drive gives Google users 15 GB of space for free. But not many are aware of the fact that one of the greatest benefits of the Drive is that you’re able to create and share documents with others, even if they don’t have a Google email. Here are the complete details how to make a Google doc in simple steps.
What Is Google Docs?
Google Docs is an online word processor that lets you create and format text documents and collaborate with other people in real-time. Here’s what you can do with Google Docs: Upload a Word document and convert it to a Google document.
How to Make a Google Doc
Here’s how to create a Google doc:
- Log in to your Gmail account after opening drive.google.com. Once you are logged in, you will be redirected to your personal Google Drive. This is the place to create, share and hold all your documents.
- Click on ‘Create’ on the top left of the drive. You have the option to choose from an Excel spreadsheet, Word document, Powerpoint or a form of drawing. There are hundreds of Google doc templates available in case you want to create a file for a specific purpose. For example, if you want to make a budget proposal in sheets, choose one from Google Sheets templates.
- If you want to create a file with a specific purpose, for example, a resume in Docs, a budget plan in Sheets, or a project proposal in Slides, you can quickly get started by using a template.
- Don’t forget to give a name or a title to the document you make.
- There is a ‘Share’ button on the top right. Once you finished creating and want to share it with others, click on it. You will be prompted to type in their email address. Once you hit ‘Done’, they will receive an email with a link to access the document irrespective of whether they have a Gmail email id or any other.

There are hundreds of smart editing and styling tools that help to format text and paragraphs. You can choose fonts, drawings, images and the best part is everything is available free of cost.
How to Quickly Create New Google Documents with a Shortcut or Hotkey?
The only thing that bothers a person when he or she moves from Microsoft Office and learns how to create Google Docs that creating a new document takes far too many steps. So, here’s a guide on how to make a Google doc with a single click or a shortcut key. This method is valid for all, including documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings.
Create a Windows Shortcut
- Start by clicking anywhere on the desktop, and choosing New- a shortcut from the context menu.
- Paste the complete URL which can be either of the following if using standard Google docs.
In case you are using a Google app, they will be slightly different like
In these, you need to replace ‘YOUR DOMAIN’ with the actual name of your domain.
- Make sure that you’ve created the shortcuts that you want, and named them correctly.
- Now comes the time to add an appropriate icon and a hotkey.
- If you don’t like the outcome, just right-click on the shortcut and use Properties from the context menu. Flip over to the Web Document tab if you’re not already there. From here, you can customize the shortcut key. Assign a different icon that you would want to.
- Hotkeys only work if the shortcut is on your desktop or in the start menu, so make sure to keep them there only.
Creating a Web Browser Shortcut
When you are already in your web browser, logged in and have Google Docs open, you can just use the drop-down menu to create new shortcuts. What if you are not there? In that case, if you want to create a new document, you will have to sign in and then wait for the page to load. Then you will go to the drop-down menu and again wait for the new page to load. It sounds really tedious. If you are a regular user of Google Docs, why not drag the shortcuts whether it is a new Google Doc or a new Google Spreadsheet to your bookmark bar.
If you are using Firefox, you have the option to enter an alternate keyword as well to create new documents using the location bar, but Google Chrome users don’t have that option. They will have to right-click on the location bar and go to Edit Search Engines.
In a new ‘search engine’, just use the URL to create a new Google Document. This way, you can simply enter the keyword into the location bar, and it’ll create a new document.
When editing a document in Google Docs, or when many people are simultaneously working on a document, it is better to use the default highlight option to emphasize important words, sentences, and paragraphs.
Here’s how to highlight in Google Docs.
- Open the file in which you want to emphasize particular words, sentences or even paragraphs.
- Use your cursor to select the portion of the file you want to highlight.
- Go to the formatting bar at the top of the screen.
- Click on the ‘Text Background Color’ button.
- It has a picture of a highlighter marker on it. Choose the color you want for the highlighting and click on it.
Doing this the particular part that you have chosen will be highlighted in the color of your choice. This is extremely useful in case the person you are sharing your document with wants to read or edit a particular thing or if you want to discuss a particular point.
Google Docs is a wonderful tool when used properly.
How To Delete Windows.old Folder?
In order to learn how to delete windows.old folder, it’s important to know about windows.old first.
For those who are completely oblivious of what is windows.old folder, let me give a quick introduction to it!!
Have you ever upgraded your windows from windows 7 to windows 8, 8.1 or 10? I’m sure you have. We all do this by time to cope up with the upgraded technology and to get full benefits out of the new windows.
While upgrading windows, what you think where your old windows files go?? Do they get deleted, or replaced??
No matter if your answer is deleted or replaced, I’ll have to tell you that you are wrong!!
None of them happens to those files, neither they get deleted nor they get replaced by the newer version. Instead, all these files of your older windows get stored in the windows.old folder. And needless to say, this folder occupies a lot of space on your hard drive unnecessarily up to 20GB or more.
Windows.old folder, however, gets deleted itself within 28-30 days of the upgrading of the window but if you want to have full control over your computer and thinking can I delete windows.old, then my answer is YES!! You can delete windows.old folder very easily.
Although, deleting windows.old is not a tough job but you can’t just delete it just by right-clicking on it and then select the delete option like we do while deleting any other folder on the computer. In order to remove windows.old, you need to follow the below-given steps. Here’s how to do that.

Step 4: – In the confirmation dialogue, just click the delete file button and you are done.
That’s it!! Yes, the method is that simple!
In case, if you don’t want to use the inbuilt disk clean up tool, there are certainly many third-party tools available in the market like CCleaner which can be used for the same purpose.
The method to use such tools is also simple. Just download that tool from its official website, install it on your computer and scan for the deleted files.
When you get provided with the deletable files, just scroll down to find the Previous Windows installation(s) option. Mark, it checks and clicks on clean up to delete that folder.

How to Make Windows 10 Faster?
You hate it! I know. Every time your computer goes into not responding mode, you just stay here cursing the computer. You don’t know how to make computer faster.
Don’t worry! I have got your back. In this article, you are going to find out the ways to speed up Windows 10 without spending even a single dime.
So without further ado, let’s get started.
How to Make Windows 10 Faster?
Microsoft Windows is the most popular computer operating system available today. The company has released multiple versions and Windows 10 is the latest above all.
Windows 10 running slow issue can occur due to many reasons. In this article, I will try to eliminate all the issues so that, you can have a speed boost at the end.
#1. Disk Cleanup Windows 10
The very first thing you should do is eliminating junk from your computer. If you don’t do so, unnecessary files of whopping size will occupy your drives.
Let me tell you how you can do it.
First, you have to open This PC. Choose a disk you want to clean up. Just right-click on it and choose properties. Alternatively, you can press Alt+ Enter as well.
Can you see a Disk cleanup button there? Clicking on the same will start analyzing your disk for junk and internet residual files.
The utility will present a result before it cleans up. So, you can always choose what to clean or what not to.
#2. Disable Startup Programs
If you are asking yourself how to make speed up my computer, stop right there! You can do a lot more than asking yourself.
One of the biggest reasons most of the computers go sluggish is a large number of startup programs. Microsoft has included a built-in option on the task manager interface to manage all your startup programs.
First, open Task Manager. You can do it by right-clicking on the taskbar and choosing the appropriate option. The best way is hitting Ctrl+ Shift+ Esc.
Go to the startup tab. There you have it! You can disable the programs you rarely use. Make sure you don’t disable antivirus, graphics and audio drivers.
#3. Disable Animations and Visual Effects
Everyone loves to see some animations while opening new applications. But you know what? It adds extra weight to the performance that you can have a speed boost if you turn them off.
Follow the steps given below to optimize Windows 10 by turning off the performance-affecting visual effects.
Step 1: First, you have to open the system properties. Press Win key+ R to open Run dialogue box. Then, type sysdm.cpl and hit Enter. (The faster way)
Step 2: Go to the Advanced tab and hit the Settings button under Performance.
Step 3: If you want to solely improve the performance, you can choose to Adjust for best performance option.
I personally don’t like how the display turns out to be after selecting that option. So instead, you can disable the following options to get the maximum out of it.
- Animate controls and elements inside windows
- Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing
- Animations in the taskbar
- Fade or slide menus into view
- Fade or slide ToolTips into view
- Fade out menu items after clicking
- Show shadows under windows
I hope your quest to find how to make Windows 10 faster ends here.
#4. Disable Background Apps
Your Windows 10 computer runs almost all the universal apps from Microsoft in the background even though you don’t open them. Obviously, it will cost you more system resources causing you a considerable drop in the speed.
You know what? You can turn them off!
Hit Win key or click the start button. On the left side of the screen, you can see a gear icon. Hitting on the same will bring you to the Settings panel.
Click on Privacy and choose Background apps from the panel given to the left. You can see all the Windows 10 apps that have the potential to run in the background and transfer data.
You can turn all the apps you don’t use. In my case, almost all the apps are unnecessary. If you regularly use the internet on your computer, you must disable those.
#5. Uninstall Applications You don’t Use
If you look at the list of applications installed on your computer, you will realize the fact that you don’t need many of them. No wonder you are searching for how to speed up Windows 10.
You must uninstall the applications you don’t use because they take up your space and badly affect the performance as well.

Click on the start button (or hit the Windows key) and search for Control Panel. Once you open it, look out for Programs and Features. As you click on it, you will get the complete list of programs installed on your computer.
Thoroughly go through the list to find out apps you don’t use at all. Maybe, there are some programs you installed for one-time use. Include those into your elimination list too.
Double-click on them to initiate the uninstallation process. There you go!
#6. Eliminate Bloatware from Your Computer
Sometimes adware and bloatware can be the biggest threats to your computer. Sometimes manufacturers inject such programs into your computer to promote their products.
You can optimize Windows 10 by getting rid of bloatware. Microsoft has included a decent antimalware tool with Windows 10 called Defender.
If you want another tool, my recommendation is Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware. I have used it and got positive results.
I hope you know how to make Windows 10 faster now, don’t you?
