How To Activate Air Gestures On Samsung Galaxy S4

The Galaxy lineup of Smartphones has really helped Samsung rise to be the most popular Smartphone manufacturer of the world. Samsung's Galaxy devices became popular by the launch of their Samsung Galaxy S ii.

Which eventually became a trendsetter in the Smartphone market.

Since then, every Galaxy Smartphone has been equally successful, and you can get a Galaxy Smartphone on any budget from the market.

Also, last year's Samsung Galaxy S3 created a huge buzz and user interest because of its Gesture based functions, huge screen, and other features.

This year, Samsung's flagship device, the Galaxy S4 has already become a Chart-buster by selling over 10 million devices within just about a month of launch. Samsung Galaxy S4 became a huge success because of the extended functions of Air Gestures than it's the predecessor and it's incredible specifications.

Even though the features related to Air Gesture has already been popular, many Galaxy S4 users still can't use these features to its full extent.

And therefore, today we will be discussing the Gesture based functions in the Samsung Galaxy S4 and how it can be utilized!

More About Air Gestures In Your Samsung Galaxy S4 :

Before showing you how to activate these Air Gestures on your Samsung Galaxy S4, it is important for you to know how actually do these actions work.

And don't worry, it is no mystery. All gesture-based actions are covered with the help of sensors connected to the front-facing camera of your Samsung Galaxy S4.

Therefore your gesture actions should be done parallel to the camera for your actions to be recorded.

You can do the following functions with the help of Air Gestures :

  1. Make or end calls: You can make or end calls by simply waving your hand parallel to the front-facing camera.
  2. Swipe Through Gallery, Webpages, Music Player, etc. : You can use gestures to navigate back and forth on the music player, browser, gallery, s memo, etc.
  3. Air Move: You can move the widgets throughout all your home screens by holding the desired widget and waving your hand to change home screen.

These are some of the major uses based on gestures on the Samsung Galaxy S4.  Other features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 include Samsung Smart Scroll, Smart Pause, etc.

How To Enable Galaxy S4's Air Gesture :

Below is how you can enable air gestures on your Samsung Galaxy S4 :

  • From your device's app drawer, go to Settings.
  • Then navigate to My Device located at the top right.
  • From the options that appear, navigate and click on Motion and Gestures.
  • Under Motion and Gestures, you can find 3 different gestural functions.
  • You can switch ON each gestural function separately according to your choice.
  • Once you turn ON any gestural function, you will see an animated demo demonstrating the function.

Know Why Air Gestures Are Not Working On Your Samsung Galaxy S4 :

Lately, many people including my friends have bought the Samsung Galaxy S4, and most of them complain that the gestural features do not work on their device.

On my testing with a Samsung Galaxy S4, I found out some possible reasons why gestural actions are not working on your device :

  1. The sensors for the  Air Gesture Technology are located close to the front-facing camera. Hence if you wave your hands by covering the front facing camera, then your gestures probably won't get noticed. Also,  make sure your gestures are made parallel to the front-facing camera.
  2. As I said, each gestural setting has separate ON/OFF toggle. Hence, if one of your preferred gesture is not working, make sure that it is toggled ON under Motion and Gestures in the settings menu.
  3. In some rare cases, screen protectors or even protective cases can block the vision of the sensors. Hence these sensors won't be able to capture your gestures.
  4. Make sure you don't wave your hands too fast, also keep only a minimum distance between the device and your palm while waving. I have noticed people waving very fast at these sensors or even waving from a bit far away distance.
  5. If you find none of these tips working, simply try restarting your device then toggling your gestures back to ON from settings. Even if that doesn't help, then take your device to your dealer or service center for help and get it fixed.

I hope this article has helped you in understanding about What is the use of air gestures on your Samsung Galaxy S4, How to turn it On, What to do in case your gesture features are not working etc.

Hardware failures are a rare case, so try out different methods to learn how to use these gestures instead of cursing Samsung or your dealer, in case it doesn't work!

How to Reinstall Windows 7?

How to Speed Up Windows 7 Performance

Windows 7 is widely used because of its simple and easy to use interface. But many times, you might encounter problems. So, you might want to know how to reinstall windows 7?

In this article, we will tell you how to reinstall windows in easy and simple steps. So, let’s get started:

How to reinstall windows 7?

Method 1: Using Startup repair.

This method may come handy when your system is not properly loading windows. This might happen because of some corrupt files of the operating system. Using this method will help you to repair those corrupt files.

This process helps you to fix your boot process which in turn allows the windows to load again.

As obvious from the above discussion, the most common use of the Startup repair is to fix the windows load sequence.

So, you can consider using this method if your problem matches the above description. In this section, we will tell you how you can perform a system repair. Here we go:

The prerequisites of this method are a device with a Windows operating system, be it a pen drive or a CD and a system on which you want to perform the startup repair.

Step #1: In this step, you will have to insert the Windows 7 CD. Do not forget to give the boot preference to the CD.

To do this, you will have to enter the BIOS of your system. The key varies from system to system. Generally, the most common keys are F2, F12, F10 or Del.

Once you are on the BIOS, you will have to navigate to the Boot submenu and from there you have to select your optical drive or the CD drive as the first boot device. After doing all this, you will have to save the changes and exit the BIOS.

Once you have completed this step, you are all set to go to the next step.

Step #2: Due to your activity in the previous step, your system will automatically start. Now, within a moment, you may see a message like “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD”. You now need to press any key, and it will lead you to the windows setup.

Now, after loading the files, the windows setup will prompt you for your language and time preferences. If it is not already set to its correct state, then you may have to enter the correct details and then click on next to proceed further.

Step #3: In this step, you require clicking on the “Repair your computer” button which appears at the bottom left of the screen.

This will take you to the system recovery options. Now, you may be asked to select your windows installation, and once you are done with this, then you require clicking on next.

Step #4: Now, the system repair tool will start its work. It will search for the corrupt files and will suggest you the solutions accordingly. While ongoing with this system repair process, make sure not to have any external hard disk or flash drive connected to your system.

Additionally, your system may boot many times in between the process. So, do not boot from the CD again as you may then have to start from scratch.

The moment, the entire repair process is completed then you need to click on the finish button which will appear on the subsequent screen.

If everything goes well, then you may have your problem solved. If not, then you should consider looking for our next solution.

Method 2: Installing fresh Windows 7.

You are recommended and advised to take a backup of all your important data as this method has a slight chance of errors. Additionally, you may also require the installation key of Windows 7 through the process. So, make sure to be equipped with one beforehand.

Step #1: Insert the CD or DVD with which you want to reinstall Windows 7 on your system. Now, you need to press the key when the screen prompts “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD”. Doing so will lead you into the system setup.

Step #2: In this step, you will be asked to set a few preferences as time and language. You may be asked to agree to the terms and conditions of the license agreement. Once you are done with this, then you are good to go to the next step.

Step #3: After successfully completing step #2, you will be prompted with a choice of “Upgrade” or “Custom” installation. You need to select custom installation for this very purpose.

Step #4: This step requires the formation of the destination drive on which you want to reinstall Windows 7. Generally, Windows 7 is installed on C drive. So, you have to format that drive.

However, formatting is optional but it is recommended as not doing so can lead you to some problems in the near future.

Once you have formatted the disk, then you have to install windows 7 in it. This process may take time as per your system.

Step #5: This final step requires finishing the process by filling out the prompts like the system name and the user account. Within a jiffy, you will have a fresh Windows 7 in front of you. Enjoy.

Additionally, you can also consider using the recovery console or performing a system restore. This can also help you out to solve your problems.

This article will tell you the processes required for partitioning hard drive in Windows 7. So, let’s get started:

What is Disk partitioning?

According to Wikipedia,
Disk partitioning is the creation of one or more regions of a hard disk or other secondary storage so that an operating system can manage information in each region separately.”

How to partition a hard drive?

How to partition a hard drive in Windows 7?

Step #1: As the initial step, all you require is to click on the start button and type “computer management”.

Alternatively, you can also open the “Computer Management” window by right-clicking on the “my computer” icon which is usually located on the desktop.

Once you have right clicked on the “My Computer” icon, you will see a menu in which you will have to locate for the “Manage” option.

Once you've managed to find that option all you have to do is to click on it. This will result in a “Computer Management” window in your screen.

You can also jump straight to the “Disk Management” window just by typing “diskmgmt.msc” at the run (Windows + R) section. This shortcut can help you skip going through the “Computer Management” window.

Step #2: As the very next step, you have to navigate down to the option “Disk Management” which will be located at the extreme left pane of the “Computer Management” window.  Clicking on it will show you the existing state of the partition of your hard drive.

Step #3: In the disk management window you will see your existing partition along with its details. Now, in this step, you will have to re-size a disk to make some space for the new partition. So, make sure to select that disk which has some free space.

You will also see a partition which may be named as “System Reserved.” We recommend not selecting this disk as you may end up ruining your system configuration or whole of the operating system also. So, beware.

To proceed further, you have to right click on the selected disk from which you want to take up some space for the new partition. By right clicking on the disk, you will see a menu. You have to locate for the “shrink volume” option and have to click on it.

Step #4: After successfully completing step #3, you will see a window with some details and fields about the disk space. In this step, you are required to tell the system how much space do you want for your new partition. The window will also show you the available free space in your selected disk.

The disk space is to be entered in MB. So, make sure to calculate the space well before entering it. Just to make sure that you enter the right details we will tell you that 1 GB of memory is equivalent to 1024 MB.

Once you have done the required, all that you have to do is to click on “Shrink” option positioned adjacent to the cancel option at the bottom right corner of the window.

Step #5: Executing the previous step correctly will result in a new unallocated partition in your disk management window. Now, you have to right click on the unallocated partition and select the new Simple Volume option.

Step #6: Step #5 will result in a new simple volume wizard pop up. This is where you have to click on the “Next” button to continue to the next part of the disk partition.

Step #7: Now in this step, you will have to allocate the memory to your partition. Make sure to enter the memory space less than or equal to the available memory size. You cannot allocate more memory to the partition than the maximum available memory space.

Once you have done the required, all that you have to do is to click on the “Next” button,

Step #8: Now, you are required to assign a letter for the navigation and identity purposes to the newly made drive. Once you have assigned the required, you just have to click on the “next” button to proceed to the next step.

Step #9: In this step, you will have to play with the settings of the newly made drive. This includes the following settings:

You have to click on the “Format this volume with the following settings” option. After that, for the “File System”, you have to select NTFS and next to the “Allocation Unit Size” you have to select Default. In the Volume Label section, you can give any name you wish for your drive.

Along with the above-mentioned settings, you are also required to check in at the “Perform a quick format” checkbox.

Once you are done with the above mentioned, you can now click on the “Next” button.

Step #10: As the final step, the previous step will result in a new pop-up window which will have the settings and details about your newly made disk.

You can have a look at it, and once you are done, all you require is to click on the “Finish” button to complete the process of partitioning a hard drive in Windows 7.

Apart from this method, you can make use of third party software’s or tools for partitioning a hard drive. There are plethoras of such software’s available on the internet.

How to Burn a CD/ DVD on Windows?

Compact Disks aka CDs have become a rare breed nowadays due to the invasion of flash drives and external hard drives. But when you want a cheap way to carry persistent data on the go, we can’t overlook CDs.

DVDs are the upgraded version of CDs, which have more storage capacity. Everything else is the same.

Do you know how to burn a CD or DVD? If not, you have landed on the right spot. Today, I am going to show you how to burn CDs.

How to Burn a CD/ DVD on Windows?

Burning a CD or DVD on Windows is not an arduous task. You can start the process right away. Here in this tutorial, I will be explaining how to burn a CD with and without a third- party tool.

So, at the end of this post, you will not have the question ‘how can I burn CDs on Windows’.

Method 1: Using the Default App on Windows

If you don’t want to use a third-party tool to burn files to a disk, use this method. Or you prefer more advanced features, you can go with the next method in which we make use of a desktop tool. (I am using Windows 10 here).

Follow the steps given below to burn a CD or DVD.

Step 1: Insert a writable CD or DVD into the tray. A notification like the given image is shown when the disk is detected.

Step 2: Open This PC (If you are using earlier versions, there is no This PC. You can open My Computer). You will see every drive connected with your computer there. Make sure that the disk you inserted is free and writable.

Step 3: Right click on the disk button and choose Burn to disk from the list of options you get on the menu. Then a small window will get opened asking you to enter a disk title and select a burning option. (The same window will be got even if you choose Open).

Enter a title that makes you realize what’s inside the disk. It will be helpful if you are dealing with many CDs.

Choosing a burning type is crucial. To get it done, you should understand what the purpose of burning is. If you want to use the disk as a USB drive (add and delete files into it), don’t hesitate to choose the first one that says Like USB flash drive.

Do you want to know how to burn music to a CD? Or you want the disk to be played with a regular CD/ DVD player? Then, choose the second option that says With a CD/ DVD player.

And click Next.

Step 4: Now, you will see the disk window with no files in it. Sometimes, you can see a .ini file there. Don’t worry about that either.

Here, we have to copy the files into the Window. Do it just like you copy and paste files between folders (that is, select the files>> Right click>> Copy>> Go to destination>> Right Click>> Paste).

Step 5: As you can clearly see in the image, the copied files will be tagged under ‘Files ready to be written to the disk.' Means, the files haven’t burnt to the CD. To do that, right-click on an empty part of the window and then, choose Burn to disk from the list of items on the menu.

Step 6: Here, you have to choose the writing speed. The higher the speed, the faster the process will be. But remember, the lesser the speed, the better the burning is.

After selecting the writing speed, click Next. If you want to close the wizard on completion of the process, just tick the checkbox just above the Next button.

That’s all. Now, you can see the progress bar as the process is already started. It will take time according to the writing speed you have chosen.

After the burning is completed, you will get this window if you haven’t ticked that checkbox. Select the option, which says ‘Yes, burn these files to another disk.' And click Finish. And wait some time to get the next CD written.

I hope you now know how to burn DVDs or CDs.

Method 2: Using Nero

Nero is an absolute stunner when it comes to CD burning. You will get many features and options with it. Here, you are going to know how to burn CDs with Nero.

Step 1: Insert an empty writable CD or DVD into your computer and make sure that it’s empty by opening the My Computer or This PC.

Step 2: Download and install Nero. Then, you will have a desktop icon. Use the same to open Nero window. You can see something like the image given below. Choose Create and Edit tab.

Step 3: Go down to click on Author, Edit, etc. Wait some time to get another window loaded.

Step 4: You will get Nero Vision with some choices to make. Select one from there based on what type of CD/ DVD you want to burn. (I chose Video DVD here). And, wait a bit.

Step 5: The next window allows you to add files to the DVD. Click on Add video files or just drag and drop files into the whitespace.

Step 6: If you want, you can rename the file right from the Nero window.

Next window allows you to customize the background and menu items. Use your creativity to proceed with it. No problems if you don’t choose to play with the customization settings. Just click on Next to go further.

Step 7: A final preview will be shown to you. It is possible to test the video with a virtual remote controller here. Click next to go to the final step.

Step 8: That’s all. After the conversion process is completed, you can click on the burn to finish the process.

You now know how to burn music to a CD or DVD (not only music though).

Wrapping Up

I hope that’s enough. Let me know if you have any issues regarding this. Do share this post on social media and help your fellas.

How to Format a Hard Drive?

Is your hard drive running out of space? Or do you want to sell your computer? In both cases, you have to format your hard drive to make room for newer data (especially if your budget is too tight to buy a new HD).

Don’t worry about your ignorance towards this stuff. Today I am here with the complete post that makes you aware of how to format a hard drive. So, let’s get started without blabbering.

How to Format a Hard Drive?

I have three options to help you format a hard drive. Remember two cases I gave you when formatting hard drives become necessary?

For the first instance, you don’t have to wipe hard drive completely. Instead, erasing one or two local disks is enough. But for the second scenario, you should format the entire hard drive to ensure the privacy of your data.

So, I will be giving three options. One, how to erase a hard drive completely. Two, how to wipe specific partitions on a hard disk and lastly, how to format external hard disks.

Before, proceeding to the formatting process, I think it’s better to know about file systems.

Different File Systems

You have to format a hard drive using a file system just before the first usage. How do you know which file system is suitable for you? Read below and thank me later.

NTFS: This one is Window’s default file system. If you check the properties of a Local disk in My Computer, you can see this file system there.

Windows can read and write to this file system, but Mac OS X and Linux can’t write to it by default. You have to use a third- party driver to read as well as write to the NTFS file system.

FAT32: It’s an older file system used on Windows. Thus, it lacks advanced features. However, this file system can be read and written to by three of the major operating systems (Windows, Mac, and Linux).

You can’t store a file more than 4 GB on a drive that makes use of this file system. So, you should not format any larger disks using FAT32.

HFS Plus: NTFS is the default file system of Windows. Likewise, HFS Plus is the default of Mac OS. A Mac machine can read and write to it. But a Windows computer can’t write to an HFS Plus drive. If you install a third- party driver, it will be possible.

ExFAT: It’s an enhanced version of FAT32. You can make use of this file system on both Windows and Mac OS X. The biggest advantage is it can store files with more than 4 GB.

I think you now got an overview of different file systems. Now, we can move on to how to wipe a computer.

N.B. :- You should take the backup of important files before you start formatting.

How to Wipe a Computer or the Entire Hard Drive?

To wipe all the data from a computer, you have to erase the complete information from the hard drive. But the problem is you can’t erase it while using. So, an easy method is to do it with a bootable CD.

Most of the companies send out a recovery CD with their machines, you can either use it or get a bootable CD of any operating system. Here, I am going to show you how the data formatting can be done with a Windows disk.

Step 1: Make a bootable CD of any operating system. If you don’t have files, download any small Linux distribution from the web.

Step 2: Insert the CD into your computer and boot from it. (For booting, you may have to change the boot device priority on BIOS settings or you have to choose the device by pressing F8 or F9 at the startup).

Step 3: In Linux and Mac OS X installation, you should choose Install from scratch to erase the hard drive. But no such issues with Windows installation. Proceed with the process and stuck at this step. (See the image).

Step 4: Here, you can see the partitions on the disk. You can delete all the partitions or simply format it to wipe hard drive completely. If you have no intentions to install the OS, just eject the CD drive. That’s all. (It can be done with a bootable flash drive too).

Want to know how to reformat a hard drive? You can use this same technique to reformat the hard drive over and over.

How to Format a Specific Partition?

Though there are multiple ways to format a particular partition on your hard drive, I am going to explain the easy method here. We will not be going any third- party software also. (Remember, you can’t format the partition on which the OS is installed).

Step 1: Open My Computer (In Windows 10 PCs, it is This PC). There, you can see all the drives connected to your computer. Decide which local disk or partition you are going to format.

Step 2: Right-click on the partition and choose Format .. You will get only NTFS as the file system most probably. You can go with the Quick format for faster processing. If you want the complete washout, then I prefer unchecking this option.

And finally, click Start. You should wait a while to get the process finished. That’s all.

How to Format External Hard Drives?

Here, you have to take some extra care while formatting because each OS prefers a specific file system. As an external hard drive is a portable media, you may have to use it on Windows, Mac, and Linux machines. So choose a file system first.

You can go with NTFS if Windows is the only OS to operate. Want to use the external HD on both Mac and Windows? Then, ExFAT should be your pick.

If you are a geek who uses three of the operating systems, you should check out the FAT32 file system though it’s a bit old. Alternatively, you can use third-party drivers also.

The process is very similar to the above method.
